“The NYPD is asking for help identifying a man who passed himself off as a messenger and stole $58,000 worth of iPhones from an Apple Inc. store,” NBC New York reports.
“The unidentified man walked into a store in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood on Thursday and told an employee he was a messenger there for a pick-up,” NBC New York reports. “The NYPD says the employee gave the man three boxes with approximately $58,000 worth of iPhone 7s.”
NBC New York reports, “The man then fled the location in a white Ford van with unknown license plates.”

“It wasn’t immediately clear how the suspect fooled staff at the Meatpacking District store,” Trevor Kapp reports for DNA Info. “Surveillance footage shows the suspect — last seen wearing a blue T-shirt, camouflage pants and black sneakers — standing inside the store near its trademark spiral staircase.”
“He hadn’t been arrested as of Friday morning, police said,” Kapp reports. “He was described as about 45 to 55 years old, bald, standing 5-foot-10 and weighing 195 pounds, police said.”

I would guess the Apple employee would be the prime suspect…no one gets “fooled” on 58 grand.
I guess all you gotta do is walk into any Apple Store, claim you are there for a pickup and employees immediately fork over $$$$ worth of iPhones with no questions or verification asked. Smart policy.

Yah, this is extremely suspicious that the Appe employee is a prime suspect…no normal person gives out $58k worth of a product and not raise eyebrows or ask questions and at the very least, inform a manager of what is happening.
How did he know the pick up contained iPhones? The inventiveness of the criminal element is amazing.
If it was any kind of Apple merchandise it was a score. (Except maybe 2013 Mac Pro’s and previous gen Apple TV’s.)

Let’s assume for a moment that I’m “cynical” (I know, would never cross your mind, just roll with me on this one). When I buy an iPhone outright, can I ask that Apple disable their “bricking” feature? It’s my phone after all…
I believe, only an ‘Admin’ who has set up and controls the device is able to ‘brick’ it. But I’m vague tonight (blame my family) to wonder. I know the fake ‘ransomware’ attacks occur due to phishing someone’s Apple (iCloud) account ID and password. Apple is able to UNbrick such compromised devices. But can they brick them at will?
I was once in the Paris Louis Vuitton on the Champs Elysee. I saw a small safe that cost 50K euro. It was so small it could hold 50 K in it.
