The man who revolutionized personal computing now wants to help revamp higher education for the tech industry. Apple co-founder Steve “Woz” Wozniak today announced the formation of Woz U, a world-class digital institute to help fill the employment gap for high-paying technology jobs across the U.S.
Woz U is designed to get people into the workforce quickly and affordably, creating long-term financial stability for a new generation of tech workers while providing prepared hires and training solutions for businesses. Arizona-based Woz U launched today with programs online, and plans to add ground campuses in more than 30 cities across the country and around the world.
To help, Woz U has created a mobile app to help match people with the technology-based career best suited for them. Current programs will train computer support specialists and software developers; data science, mobile applications and cybersecurity programs are coming soon.
All Woz U programs incorporate the latest technologies and skills in high demand by tech employers, and programs include comprehensive career services.
Woz U will include multiple platforms to teach and train. One will work with tech companies to recruit and train, or even retrain, a workforce through subscription-based curriculum or on-site customized programs. Another will provide school districts with K-12 STEAM programs, exposing digital engineering concepts to students at a younger age to nudge them toward a possible tech-based career. There soon will be an accelerator program to identify and develop elite tech talent.
“My entire life I have worked to build, develop and create a better world through technology and I have always respected education,” Wozniak said. “Now is the time for Woz U, and we are only getting started.”

Interns, TTK! In honor of Woz, Prost!
Woz U is BS, and I don’t mean a Bachelors of Science. It is a certificate program offered by “Southern Carrers Institute” – a tech diploma mill. I downloaded the app, signed up, and shortly thereafter got a high pressure sales call from SCU. They are selling a 32 week program of 10 courses for $13K.
Who knows, maybe there are bigger plans afoot and these are just the first baby steps. But right now, it looks like Woz is just lending his name to an existing, for-profit, web training program.
That’s disappointing. I’d be more interested in seeing someone start a program that works with school districts to provide tech education not easily affordable to the school. Let’s say you lease space not to far from the school so that students can get there via school bus or whatever. You fill it with computers and use college students to teach advanced topics like Python programming. I.e. Introduction to Computer Science, Python Programming, Web Development, How Networks Work…
This can all take place over the course of high school and possibly provide an advanced placement credit for certain 4 year colleges.
SO for every $13k made Woz probably gets $10k – not back paycheck for just putting his name to the business.
Like I said in a later post, Woz is on a figure head for this business, he isnt a Director of teh comapny, never sey it up from scratch – he was approached to put him name to the business.
Woz never was an Entrepreneur, if he was he would have setup several successful businesses since parting ways with Steve Jobs all those many years ago.
Let’s hope it goes down better than Trump U.
The app is not available in the Canada am store. Hi guess for now it is US only. Wiz U should take an que from the major universes that have online programs and make it truly world wide from the start.
Actually he Sdidint create Woz U, he was apprached by some people with the business already setup and they pitched it to him and he has endorsed the business.
Woz has no involvement in the company apart from them using his name and image (think of it like the company is sponsored by Woz)
