64% of Americans now own an Apple product, up from 50% in 2012

“The CNBC All-America Economic Survey finds that 64 percent of Americans now own an Apple product, up from 50 percent when the question was last asked five years ago,” Steve Liesman reports for CNBC. “The average American household reports owning 2.6 Apple products, up by a full Apple product from the 2012 survey.”

“‘I cannot think of any other product — especially any other product at a high price point — that has that kind of permeation with the public and level of growth,’ said Jay Campbell, pollster with Hart Research, which conducted the survey along with Public Opinion Strategies,” Liesman reports. “The household ownership rate is below 50 percent for only a few groups, including those with incomes under $30,000, retirees and women over age 50. By contrast, 87 percent of American with incomes over $100,000 report owning at least one Apple product.”

“The wealthiest Americans own 4.7 products per household compared with just one for the poorest,” Liesman reports. “Americans in the West own 3.7, compared with 2.2 in the South.”

  1. What are the figures for Microshit Mobile devices ? 🙂 I know they had Microshit stores in the US, how well are they performing? They tried to look like Apple Stores, but could Microshit emaluate the Apple Store success with their stores? These are valid question 🙂

    1. Microsoft’s retail success rate couldn’t be very high. Their mobile division is gone and the Surface division seems about ready to go along with Microsoft’s hardware partners. Who buys retail versions of Windows anymore? Same with Microsoft Office? I’m not sure who would bother to go to a Microsoft retail store and for what reason.

  2. There are far fewer haters of Apple products than I thought. With all the hate spewed against Apple on Youtube and the internet, in general, I figured hating Apple was more or less an American pastime. Of course, it’s likely just the noisy minority or maybe commenters from other countries. It’s hard to tell. I always wondered if there were that many Americans who hated an American company which made little sense to me. Why should loyal Americans be cheering for So. Korean and Chinese companies to defeat Apple? Our foreign debt sure doesn’t need to get any higher. As it is, rooting for any Android smartphone is like turning your back on the U.S. In a global economy it’s understandable but I’m just saying.

  3. “The wealthiest Americans own 4.7 products per household…”
I wouldn’t consider us very “wealthy” in this regard, but between my wife and I, we own 7 Apple products 😀
