Apple is building a world class TV content team

“Apple’s initial ‘’flags-in-the-sand’ attempts at building its own content may seem a little lacklustre, but the company learns as it grows and is putting together an extremely strong content development team – today we learn that team may soon include former Channel 4 content chief, Jay Hunt,” Jonny Evans writes for Apple Must.

“A Television Business International report claims Hunt, who was apparently in the frame to take over as CEO of the UK broadcaster just four months ago, ‘is now in talks’ to take a role at Apple in London, UK,” Evans writes. “The connection seems to be Apple’s newly-hired original content chiefs Jamie Erlicht and Zach van Amburg.”

“Apple is making some big investments in creating a world-class management team to lead its attempt to build a stable of original content. Recent hires have included WGN America chief Matt Cherniss,” Evans writes. “With Amazon Prime, the TV app and a raft of other Apple TV improvements slowly percolating at time of writing, who else thinks it’s possible Apple plans a TV-focused event before the end of the year?”

  1. If they want to build a “world-class” content team, great, but how ’bout getting a world-class, monthly streaming option off the ground first?

I mean, why build a TV box—which adds zero to your bottom line—for your customers to log on to your competitors’ streaming apps and have no streaming option of your own?

Apple has all-you-can-eat streaming music, why not all-you-can-eat streaming movies and TV-shows

  2. Apple TV will go nowhere with Eddy Clueless. Apple TV 1.0 was so far ahead of the game I had to constantly explain it to friends as it was the future of TV. Now look at Apple TV it’s just an over priced poor copy of everything else around with a crappy remote too.

Assembling a world class team of media buyers won’t help with out the corporate mentality that brought you Planet of the Apps. Their schedule will no doubt be filled with pearly white teeth, inoffensive, gender neutral mixed diversity lives in Apple product placement heavy TV programmes.

Instead of making their own TV content and buying 3rd party content like Netflix, i.e. the hard stuff they tried to strong arm the industry into letting them top slice 30% for iTunes access. I’m glad they weren’t successful.
