“I was perfectly happy when I bought Apple’s new iPhone 8 Plus,” Todd Haselton writes for CNBC. “I still think it’s the best iPhone you can buy right now. But I can’t stop thinking about the iPhone X.”
“I regret buying the iPhone 8 Plus because it feels almost exactly the same as the iPhone 7 Plus in day-to-day usage, especially for the things I use my phone most for, like sending emails, browsing Twitter and sending text messages,” Haselton writes. “Unless I return my 8 Plus soon, I won’t have the new iPhone X to show off to my friends and family. As the tech guy, I kind of want those bragging rights. And I’ll be awfully jealous of my friends who have the iPhone X if they get it before me.”
“I praised the iPhone 8 Plus in my review and I still think it’s the best iPhone for most people who don’t care about having the best iPhone out there,” Haselton writes. “I’m torn, but because of who I am, I probably should have waited for the X. Maybe I’ll try pre-ordering it later this month and, if shipment times aren’t too long, I’ll make the switch.”

This is pretty much the universal reaction to what would have been the world’s best smartphone had the iPhone X not existed. Again, Apple may have a problem on their hands if they’ve made too many iPhone 8/Plus units and are not prepared to market and promo them like crazy. If you’re getting “bored” with a smart phone perhaps you need to reexamine your life and hopefully get one. Too many are looking to new gimmicky technology to assuage their humdrum lives. This same kind of personality will even get “bored” with an iPhone X in due order.

I know the type. Bitches, whines incessantly, greatest pleasure is derived from this and switching from phone to phone, devices, platforms, brands, etc. to satisfy fix. Some of these people get paid just to write about all that… Or pretend to.

Yeah, and if you get the X, you will be bored with the X’s lame gimmicks and want the iPhone 11.

Apple will keep selling shed loads of iPhone 8 units even after the release of iPhone X, not everyone is in the $1000 market for a smartphone. There will be plenty of customers who can stretch to $699 though. The 8 will be fine. I’m liking Apple’s strategy they have iPhone in so many price points now from $349 for the SE, there’s an iPhone to fit everyone’s budget. The only thing Android had going for it was cheaper price, not any more. IPhone market share is about to go through the roof.

Apple may sell a lot of iPhones but iPhone market share percentage will never go up significantly. Android market share percentage will never fall because of the way Android devices are priced. Most consumers of the world are paying half of what any iPhone cost for their Android smartphones. As an Apple investor, I’ve accepted the iPhone’s limits of market share percentage. Android devices will always dominate and there’s nothing Apple can reasonably do about it.
Well you may need to review your thinking. Apple has always had a large market share of smartphones in the $500-$1000 bracket. That is about to change, with the iPhone SE now priced at $349 Apple will now extend its market share for items priced between $349-$1000. Remember the iPhone SE with it’s A9 chip already outperforms the Galaxy S8 in the majority of everyday tasks including memory management. Any Android phone priced under $349 is basically being used just as a phone for texting and making calls, not a smartphone, so yes it’s Android but really it’s Android lite, and those cheap throwaway devices are pretty meaningless in terms of market share. Apple as you well know being that you’re an Apple investor yourself is not interested in the budget customer.
Bragging rights? Plenty of real tragedy in this world and we get to read about this whiner’s suffering. He’s able to afford a perfectly decent Apple flagship smartphone and now he’s unsatisfied with his ‘predicament’. It’s not as though he can’t sell his iPhone 8 Plus and purchase an iPhone X when it’s released. That’s the problem with instant gratification. It’s never enough for some people. Unless his older iPhone stopped working he should have easily been able to wait a couple of months for iPhone X. He really doesn’t need an iPhone X. He’s just a show-off.

Oh, that would require some thought which this dude clearly hasn’t got the required organ to do.
Bored? What? What does he want? Seriously, it’s a TOOL to get a job done. I use my phone for 2 factor authentication to my corporate network, Skype for business, mail, calendar, iMessage, some FaceBook, some news apps (rather use the iPad or Mac for reading anyway), podcasts, audio books and music….oh and to tether my LTE to my Wifi only devices like MBP, when needed.
Beyond that? I need a phone that gets out of my way and let’s me do those things with minimal lag, do it quickly and efficiently, securely and in the Apple ecosystem.
I’ve been running the iPhone 6 plus and it was getting to slow to handle the things I NEED for my job and to function. Joining a Skype meeting was spotty, laggy, slow and painful with all of the app updates. Everything else was getting slow and frustrating. When it got to the point where I wanted to throw the phone against a brick wall, I knew it was time for an upgrade…not just a time to “feel cool” and make people “jealous” of the new phone. It’s a phone!
I just picked up the iPhone 8 plus. Moving from 2 core to 6 cores and 1G RAM to 3G, the new A11 chip, etc. has been wonderful. It’s just what I needed! Sure, I considered the X model. But seriously, what would that have given me? Really? Ok, it’s a bit easier to hold but the screen isn’t really larger. It’s longer but the width is what I really need and there they are really about the same. It won’t make it easier to read and I can do it well with the plus model now. I’m fine waiting a generation or two for FaceID. I don’t need the animoji crap (but it looks fun). Yes, I’d like the OIS in the 2nd lens…that would have been great. So really, the 8 plus is what I needed.
Now, if someone came to me and asked to upgrade from a 7 plus to an 8 plus? Why? Seriously, why? Wireless (slow) charging? Ok, maybe, but its not a “need”. The better camera? Maybe, but it still can’t compete with a real camera, but it’s very good for a tiny little sensor. Someone going from an 5, 6 or 6s, sure….go for the 8 plus.
