“Not everyone is convinced that Apple Inc. is staring down at a demand shortage with the iPhone 8,” Annie Palmer writes for TheStreet.
“KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who’s built a reputation for correctly predicting many of Apple’s moves, said that reports of lower-than-expected iPhone 8 sales are “overdone” and called the market’s response ‘excessively negative,’ according to MacRumors,” Palmer writes. “Kuo added that Apple is expecting demand to be split 50/50 between the iPhone X and the iPhone 8/8 Plus and, based on that, sales of the iPhone 8 models appear to be on track with expectations.”
“‘At first glance, the combined first-week adoption rate for the iPhone 8/8 Plus might appear low (about half that of iPhone 6s/6s Plus and 7/7 Plus),’ Kuo explained. ‘However, this is due to the fact that the iPhone X is not included, not because iPhone 8/8 Plus first weekend sales have been weak,'” Palmer writes. “Kuo believes market analysts are mis-characterizing demand for the iPhone 8/8 Plus sales because they’re focusing on the lines that form outside channels that sell SIM card-free and unlocked devices, such as the Apple Store and Best Buy.”

This is pretty much the universal reaction to what would have been the world’s best smartphone had the iPhone X not existed. Again, Apple may have a problem on their hands if they’ve made too many iPhone 8/Plus units and are not prepared to market and promo them like crazy. I don’t believe it is fake news. Maybe folks are tired of of seeing the same phone for 4-years with significant price increases for minor improvements.
Even the iPhone X seems like beta. Why announce a phone 2-months before it will ship? I would be surprised if any one else did this… but not Cook. He’s been fucking up like this since day one as CEO.
Why announce the iPhone X two months before it will ship? Because it would be so much worse to either:
Not mention the iPhone X at the iPhone 8 event, release the 8 and 8+ a week later, sell millions of them (many on two-year installment contracts) to people on the promise that they were the latest and greatest Apple product, and then announce an even greater Apple product 42 days later,
OR
Delay the release of the 8 & 8+ for six to eight weeks until the X was ready to ship in quantity to avoid having the X cut into iPhone 8 sales… by not having any sales for it to cut into.

When nonpartisan fact checkers like Snopes reveals the media fallacies, the same people who whine about the bad media attack the fact checkers to defend their religion/brand of “news” crisis peddlers
5 never ever go out of their way to sit down face to face with a person outside his tribe to just talk about why we think what we do or understand what’s really going on at your local school or community center or town hall
6 believe in ghosts, talk show personalities, and old Aramaic scrolls written by anonymous Jews in a desert 2k years ago more than they trust the data collected and reported by nonprofit or government sponsored nonpartisan researchers who share the full data and methods of their work
7 spend more time preaching to others what how they should lead their lives instead of listening to the viewpoints of others
Snopes is not nonpartisan. “Fact checking” is just new-age propaganda and disinformation. Let one’s opinions and arguments stand on their own merits, selling them as above reproach is dishonest.
For decades, conservatives attacked liberals for relativism, for the notion that there isn’t any such thing as “the truth,” only “my truth.” We ridiculed them when they went with their feelings in the face of observable facts. We laughed when they got angry at our efforts to apply logic rather than ideology, and evidence rather than presupposition.
Suddenly, the tables have turned, and we have people who claim to be conservative who think that verifying the factual basis for one’s opinions is “new-age propaganda,” because opinions should stand on their own merits without any reference to a so-called “real world.” One man’s opinion is as good as another, because all of them are just opinions, and all opinions are equally fallible.
Isaac Asimov wrote an astonishingly prescient article on this in 1980. It is worth re-reading:

While I agree with the majority of what you said here, one fact IS true. The United states of America is NOT Supposed to be) a Democracy. It was created as a Constitutional, Representative Republic which is nothing like a Democracy. Anyone who believes they are the same simply has no understanding of the intent of the Founders.
I recommend one reads “Democracy of Republic, which one are We”? By Benedict D. LaRosa as it delves deep into the differences between the two and the reasons why the Founders chose the Constitutional Republic over Democracy. In fact, the Founders despised Democracy due to the fact it was nothing more than “mob rule”. Thanks for your indulgence!
That is pretty much what Asimov was saying 37 years ago. Far too many Americans have bought into the notion that democracy, in the sense of absolute rule by transitory majorities, is what the USA is all about. In fact, while “all men are created equal,” not all opinions are factually equal. A policy that is based on false premises or moral corruption is not improved when it wins an election.
It is not elitism to say that brain surgeons know more about brain surgery than the average layman. It is not elitism to say that somebody who has studied the history and culture of another country might know more about it than someone who has not. It is not “new-age propaganda” when someone checks whether someone else is speaking the truth.
Fake news is good for making Apple’s share price drop. There are obviously plenty of investors who believe it must be true, so they’re ready to quickly dump their Apple stock. Apple fell from $164 to $150 in the blink of an eye. Many tens of billions of dollars of value gone in a week’s time.
Amazon is the complete opposite of Apple. When Amazon had the introduction of their latest products, the share price quickly climbed. However, when Apple introduces new products the share quickly falls. Why? Because Wall Street has a lot more faith in Amazon than they have in Apple. Apple is nothing but a joke to Wall Street. They know Apple is like a shaky house of cards waiting to be blown over. Amazon with a P/E of 240 is a lot more stable than Apple with a P/E of 18. That’s pretty pathetic if you ask me. Almost every product Amazon introduced recently was highly praised as taking more market share. Not so with Apple’s products.
I suppose the real matchup is Jeff Bezos against Tim Cook and you always know who’s going to come out on top. It’s going to be an instant K.O. with Jeff Bezos laughing and jumping around the ring while Tim Cook is flat on his back.
Neither Amazon or Apple have to tell sales figures but with Amazon, sales are always imagined with an optimistic view. With Apple, sales are always imagined with a pessimistic view. That’s just how it is with Apple. No news is seen as bad news and fake news confirms it.

Any news outlet that doesn’t mention that many are waiting for the iPhone X is either trying to mislead you or is uninformed and didn’t do their homework.
I’m not sure which one is worse.
Not to mention that the Galaxy 8S is a very nice phone hardware wise. I would not get an Android because I am too entrenched in iOS/MacOS ecosystem, but this does not take away the fact that Android has and is getting much better.
The Tim Cook era will be forever known as the era of glorious expectations and meager results.
