“KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo weighed in on pre-orders for Apple iPhone 8 and Apple Watch Series 3,” StreetInsider reports.
“Kuo said it is very likely that iPhone X demand will cannibalize iPhone 8 pre-orders,” StreetInsider reports. “While it takes 3-6 weeks or more to ship new iPhone models after they are available for preorder, they see the iPhone 8 taking less than 1-2 weeks.”
“The analyst also notes significantly stronger-than-expected pre-order demand for Apple Watch Series 3’s GPS + Cellular version,” StreetInsider reports. “While Apple Watch shipments are well below iPhone shipments, they recommend investors start keeping tabs on this product due to significant marked shipment growth.”

You know, we’re not convinced that Apple will be overrun with iPhone 8/Plus preorders. Yes, use the App Store app, in case, but it might be an easier night than you think. In fact, Apple just might have a problem on their hands, judging by the early results of our online poll. Maybe so. But demand for iPhone 8s and 8 Pluses Is already outstripping available supply, leading to delays almost across the board.

Why do they pay these analysts
Not selling out fast enough is not necessarily an indication of low demand maybe they just have a lot available, in the same was selling out is not necessarily an indication of high demand maybe they just don’t have enough.
Where does Kuo get his numbers from I’m sure Apple is not telling him
When a company has multiple models of a product, do they ever sell in perfect ratio? If they don’t, then you can always say one model is cannibalizing another. I don’t really understand his point. First, they say demand for the higher priced iPhone X will be low because of the high cost. Now they’re saying there’s more demand for the iPhone X than the less expensive iPhone 8.
I don’t know if this is good or bad for Apple. Maybe Apple should have charged more than $1000 for the iPhone X to push more consumers to the iPhone 8/8 Plus. Some new report says consumers aren’t going to be pleased with Face ID. It’s very hard to get a handle on what’s really happening with so many conflicting reports.
Anyway, I don’t think Apple had a choice having lower production rates of the iPhone X. If the components aren’t available in high supply then there’s nothing Apple can do about it. It’s hard for me to believe that the iPhone 8/8 Plus won’t be strong sellers over the next few months. I can only sit back and see how things unfold over the next few months and hope for the best.
I think once people see their delivery dates pushed back to 2018 they’ll start canceling their orders and going for the 8, or better yet for Apple, keeping their orders (early Easter presents?) and still getting the 8 with the idea to sell or pass it on to family later.
Why? I want an iPhone X but not worried at all about when I might get one. The 7 Plus I have is that good and an extra month or two would not justify getting an 8 that is not as advanced as the X. Different childlike impatient strokes I guess. A problem of the tech-pampered.
I’m thinking of getting a 7+ as an upgrade for my 6+ instead of waiting at all, what do you think?
7+ is an excellent phone and you can get a great deal I’m sure. Depends on hoe cutting edge your budget will allow but my 7+ runs beautifully. I could easily use it another year or two. But with AR just arrived, well, it may or may not be worth fighting for at this juncture. And like any technology will get better with time.
Great, thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. The AR tech might be one reason I’d go for a newer model, but still don’t see any gamechanging apps on the horizon, at least for anything that might be highly useful for me.
As time goes on I think I’m going for an 8+ or even a 7+ at a discount. The X has less usable screen space than a + and that atrocious notch. A plus-sized phone with an edge-to-edge screen (maybe even a little wider) would be ideal for me. Maybe next year?
You can’t handle the notch. The iPhone X is not for you.
No one has publicly reviewed the iPhone so we’ll wait and see what the reaction is to long-term use. The iPhone 8+ will give you a better viewing experience in terms of unobstructed screen size.
