“The difference between Apple’s new iPhone models is a bit like flying first class compared with coach. We envy first class, but coach gets us there without breaking the budget,” Anick Jesdanun writes for The Associated Press. “The iPhone 8 will do just fine for $300 less than the glitzy iPhone X , even though it won’t make your friends and colleagues jealous. It’s also available much sooner — this Friday — starting at almost $700.”
“The iPhone 8 remains a fairly straightforward update of the iPhone 7, which itself was a fairly straightforward update of the iPhone 6S. Then again, no one expects much different from a coach seat,” Jesdanun writes. “It’s hard to talk about the iPhone 8 without comparing it to my 15 minutes with the iPhone X last Tuesday.
The X wowed with a fancy new display that flows to the edges of the phone. The phone is compact, yet features a screen slightly larger than the one on the supersized iPhone 8 Plus. The X also features facial recognition that lets you unlock the phone with a glance.”
“The 8 has none of that, although it does share other new goodies the X is getting, including wireless charging. The 8 and the X both have faster processors and sensors to enhance graphics in augmented reality, a blending of the virtual and physical worlds, though older iPhones will also run AR apps with a software update Tuesday,” Jesdanun writes. “To make wireless charging work, the 8 features a glass back, something last seen in the iPhone 4S in 2011. Aesthetic considerations aside, this gives you another sheet of glass to break. Apple says custom glass from Corning makes the phone stronger. Even so, consider a service plan and get a case. Wireless charging works with most cases, as long as there’s no metal or magnets. I found the phone charged just as fast with the case on.”

MacDailyNews Take: Android phones are like stowing away in the landing gear wheel-well and being asphyxiated/frozen to death.
This is pretty much the universal reaction to what would have been the world’s best smartphone had the iPhone X not existed.
Again, Apple may have a problem on their hands if they’ve made too many iPhone 8/Plus units and are not prepared to market and promo them like crazy:
You know, we’re not convinced that Apple will be overrun with iPhone 8/Plus preorders. Yes, use the App Store app, in case, but it might be an easier night than you think. In fact, Apple just might have a problem on their hands, judging by the early results of our online poll. It’s early, but we expect Apple to market the living you-know-what out of the iPhone 8/Plus because, next to the iPhone X, it’s looking like a tough sell. — MacDailyNews, September 14, 2017
Since the U.S. carriers are already offering iPhone 8/Plus promotions, Apple seems to have planned for the expected reaction to iPhone 8/Plus with iPhone X looming over them.

So? The cheaper Honda Civic is not suppose to be a Tesla.
Want the Tesla? Pay up and buy the Tesla.
The iPhone 8 is a pointless device. The way it’s positioned, no one in their right mind would buy it over the X.
That’s because lazy and greedy Cook has been making the exact same phone for the last 4-years. In order to get any semblance of innovation or seeming upgrade (flaws and all), you have to get the X. I’m upgrading my 6S to the X under duress. The Apple of today is a shitty company!
Samsungs worst Nightmare 🙂
Love it
Even if true, the iPhone8 is like flying in Premium Economy while those Android things are like flying in Basic Economy at the very back of the plane right next to the restrooms.
Android phones are actually like being loosely strapped to the aircraft wing and holding on for dear life.
Android is like flying with no pants (virus) and powered by single propeller (sloth) compared to the Bionic option. Say nothing of ecosystem, customer sat and Apple’s long-term innovation trajectory.
Android is the a greyhound bus with a broken toilet in the back.
As soon as iPhone X customers discover they’ll have a 6 month wait for delivery, the iPhone 8 sales will pick up just fine. It is amazing how few potential iPhone X customers out there understand the reality of buying hot Apple products. There are never enough. Prepare for the howls and laments when the iPhone X wait time begin to be reported.
iPhone 8/plus wait times have extended online. Apple Store pickup no longer available. I myself wanted the iP8 because I wanted to keep my Apple Battery case and the home button just works fine along with AppleWatch3. Performance will be better than iPX due to less processor demand for graphics processing on OLED screen systems as well. Additionally, I didn’t want to be the test pilot for facial recognition useage/implementation problems that may arise. As the situation changes I may look at the iPX but not yet……just my 2c!
For them to fit a screen bigger than an iPhone Plus in the size of a case the size of an iPhone is an amazing feat of engineering. The iPhone X is a true marvel, despite the notch.
I found it interesting that they kept the 6s/plus too. The 7/plus was basically an upgrade of that. The SE did not surprise me; there are still people who like the size and being made in India I think this is the widest lineup of iPhones. It has several sizes and price points. I think this will be a big problem for Android especially overseas. I think the X will be like a Corvette; gets people into the showroom then sell them something they can afford.
Please everybody buy the 8. Us with the moola need the constraints on the X removed.
More like, Business Class vs First Class. There is nothing cheap \coach about the iPhone 8\8+
I guess that would make Android the equivalent of a greyhound bus.
Two iPhone Xs, to go, please.
i’ll get an 8 only because i’m on the Apple plan. there is nothing whatsoever exciting or enticing about it. just ghetto-izing the casual consumer who doesn’t need to have the cutting edge when Apple could have easily made the 8 bezel free etc. what a crummy way to run a railroad
