“If you’re wondering where your movies went, worry not. There’re still around. They’ve just moved to a new location,” Lory Gil writes for iMore. “The Videos app you previously used to access your movies from is no longer available in countries where the TV app is available.”
“Instead, those movies that you’ve purchased, stored in iCloud from your movie library, or synced from iTunes will now be accessible from the TV app,” Gil writes. “When you purchase movies and TV shows from iTunes, they are automatically synced in iCloud so you can watch them on all of your devices. A shortcut to every movie you’ve purchased will be in the TV app. You can then either stream or download the movie onto your device.”
“If you live in a country where the TV app is not available, you’re not out of luck,” Gil writes. “You can get the Video app back onto your iPhone or iPad if its gone missing…”

Apple’s TV app was first introduced in the U.S., but is now heading to seven more countries worldwide. First up are Canada and Australia which get the app later this month. The U.K., Germany, France, Norway, and Sweden will receive the TV app by the end of the year.

Be aware that if you plan on watching your movies offline you will need to log into TV while connected to the internet in order to see your movies when you’re offline. I hadn’t realized this before starting a long flight and all my media was unavailable until I could establish a good internet connection at the end.
Yet another example—the changes to Mac iTunes is another—of the assumption by Apple software engineers that all of us have uninterrupted access from all our devices to affordable high-speed Internet.
Lame. Why open an app called tv to watch a movie? And on that have to be connected to see the list of available purchased media, it’s been that way since apple tv gen 2. I took one of them to cottage with a mac mini and a drobo, my son is autistic and if he needs a calm down Pixar and Disney to the rescue. But…. takes a few min to get anything to play cause in background it’s trying to connect! Why! Damn video wasn’t purchased from apple so why does it need to phone home? Cause apple is tracking everything I watch!
I’ve been an apple user since before the mac and before the Lisa but in last 5 years I’m getting more and more frustrated with crap like this.
Apple please don’t drop the ball! We all don’t live in NY or LA. Come on!
This app is now available in my country so I don’t have the Videos app anymore. I wouldn’t mind using the tv app, but now I can only watch movies I bought for myself and not the ones I’ve bought for my family.
