“Get psyched, Mac fans!” David Pogue writes for Yahoo Finance. “It’s that time of year again, and a new, free upgrade to your operating system is on its way from Apple.”
“Apple has continued to work on Safari, its web browser—and says that the new version will be the fastest desktop web browser in the world. It will also use less power. Apple claims that you’ll be able to watch Netflix (NFLX) for two hours longer in Safari than other browsers,” Pogue writes. “The big-ticket item underneath Mac OS High Sierra is the Apple File System, developed for the new era of solid-state drives and increased security threats.”
“The Photos app has received a lot of work,” Pogue writes. “New editing tools bring Photos ever closer to Photoshop. You can now manipulate the Curves of a photo’s histogram, or edit only the reds (for example) in a photo. And, inevitably, there are now Instagram-style filters.”

Before you upgrade, make sure that all the software you rely on still will work. It sounds like this breaks more apps than usual. Price of progress, but you don’t want to find out when it is too late.
I just got a new iMac, and I will definitely not be updating it or my MacBook Pro until I’m darn sure that it’s got the majority of bugs worked out. That said, I’ve never had any real problems with new operating systems that I can recall.
On my HS 2016 MBP15″ and iMac almost everything works fine, except Apple Mail. There the Today and Yesterday smart mailboxes don’t work and syncing is indefinite. My Sierra machine mail is perfect and I let it do the syncing and sorting; the HS mail clients copy that.
Run the Beta on my MacBook Pro and as an external boot drive on my desktop Macs.
There are very few issues and I have a fairly complex setup on my desktop Macs.
Mail is still a mess, but that can be said of the release version of Sierra. The Citrix client does not play well with my Mac, but works fine on iOS and Windows. Apple points at Citrix and Citrix Apple. The Citrix client on Mac sees good certificates as bad and refuses to launch the desktop. Funny, because the same website works just fine on everything else- including iOS.
That’s no a high Sierra issue. Manually add the certificate and then choose always trust. Finally figured out that solution…took me a while.
