“In developing the product, Pixelmator looked again at how people work with images on a Mac, and used this information to help develop a flow that should be accessible even to first time users. The idea is to match pro power with accessible simplicity,” Evans writes. “Codenamed Whirlwind, the app offers a modern single-window interface, non-destructive, GPU-powered image editing tools, machine learning-enhanced editing features, and more.”
Evans writes, “Together, these tools will likely deliver all the image editing performance many Mac users will need.”

If you want to draw people away from ADOBE by the tens of thousands, make this app NON-subscriptionware. I just won’t put subscription software on my computer. No way, no how.

I can’t even describe how much I hate subscription ware. Charge a fair price for a major version, rev it for features and bugs, then convince me that the next major version is worth my paying again.
I routinely buy major upgrades both because the features warrant it and I like supporting the developers. Becoming a tenant farmer on my own Mac, just pisses me off and is way too MSFTian.
Agreed! I refuse to pay Adobe a subscription. (I don’t forget the dark days when they put the Mac last behind Windows updates.) I’m still using an old non-subscription of Photoshop but I would dump it in a heartbeat if this looks promising.
At the end of that video I was expecting audience applause since it seemed so much like a video from an Apple presentation. Pixelmator Pro looks interesting, and is hopefully more useful than the standard version which I have.
That said, I just resubscribed to Adobe Creative Cloud, which I consider a good deal at $10 a month. Having just spent $2,700 on my new iMac that isn’t going to cause me to lose any sleep. Heck, I pay that for my Apple Music account too.
I have the current version and I find it “pretty” and “capable looking” – but very limited in lacking some fairly basic features I depend on in my ancient version of Photoshop (which only runs on an old used Win7 machine I bought cheap for the purpose), so “hopefully more useful than the standard version” is an understatement to me.
Totally agree. $120/yr to maintain current versions of Lightroom, Photoshop and Bridge plus access to Fonts etc. is a very good deal. Don’t understand why people get so out of sorts about subscriptions. It’s the new wave in music, apps etc.

I also have the “opportunity” to work with Photoshop on my “mandatory” Windows 10 machine at work.
I prefer Pixelmator BECAUSE it doesnt try to be all things to all people, I am actually much more productive with it because of that.
In this case the operating system makes no difference.
Used Pixelmator and Affinity Photo for long time now. No prob with either, so farewell Adobe and vile subscription ware.
MDN: I will be the judge of what I need. I do not find any value in you telling people what you consider “good enough”.
