Apple CEO Tim cook has tweeted, in Spanish, condolences after the latest Islamic terrorist attack in Europe, this time in Barcelona, Spain.
A driver of a van mowed down crowds of tourists on Barcelona’s most famous avenue on Thursday, killing at least 13 people in an attack that was claimed by Islamic State. Officials said the death toll could rise, with more than 100 people injured, some seriously.
“Hours beforehand, one person was killed in an explosion in a house in a town southwest of Barcelona, in an incident linked to the attack, police added. Residents of the house were preparing explosives, a police source said,” Andrés González and Richard Martin report for Reuters. “As the manhunt continued into the night, police said several attackers were killed in a shootout during an operation against what they called a possible ‘terror attack’ in Cambrils, another town south of Barcelona.”
“Earlier in Barcelona, witnesses said the white van zigzagged at high speed down Las Ramblas, a busy avenue thronged with tourists, ramming pedestrians and cyclists, sending some hurtling through the air and leaving bodies strewn in its wake,” González and Martin report. “Islamic State’s Amaq news agency said: ‘The perpetrators of the Barcelona attack are soldiers of the Islamic State and carried out the operation in response to calls for targeting coalition states’ – a reference to a U.S.-led coalition against the Sunni militant group.”
“If the involvement of Islamist militants is confirmed, it would be the latest in a string of attacks in the past 13 months in which they have used vehicles to bring carnage to the streets of European cities” González and Martin report. “That modus operandi – crude, deadly and very hard to prevent – has killed well over 100 people in Nice, Berlin, London and Stockholm… It was the deadliest attack in Spain since March 2004, when Islamist militants placed bombs on commuter trains in Madrid, killing 191 people and wounding more than 1,800.”
On Thursday, Cook tweeted, “Attacks tragic and senseless in Barcelona. Our thoughts today are with all our friends and colleagues in that great city.”

Cook, always happy to play sad, do nothing, and look like a noble person. Over, and over, and over again. Cook will never call out Radical Islam, or make any effort to support eradication of these animals.
Damn it if I hate to agree, but I do. At this point I consider everything he says to be PR, there is no heart in it, and I actually consider it to be shameful and transparent. I don’t believe that most of these mouth pieces for ‘big hearts’ have the remotest capacity for genuine empathy. My wife is from one of those countries, and being pandered to is not high on the list of people that live there regarding solutions to their problems. In fact, a lot of them consider it an insult to their intelligence and an act of presumed superiority.

I remember Europeans being really high and mighty and attacking USA for not taking in more Muslims. There were so many European political meetings where they criticized USA immigration checks as being too long any how much better European politicians like Merkel were to let in millions of muslims with minimum security checks.
If Apple was to criticize European politicians and say for example they should be more vigilant on radical Islam tens of millions of Europeans will get angry at Apple (I have zero doubt there would protestors like those outside the G20 etc meetings around Apple stores if Apple did such a thing).

I’m saying Tim Cook can sympathize with Europeans but he can’t do much more (like criticize European politics for lax anti terrorism laws etc) as others are suggesting as he’s not a European. Many Europeans don’t really like USA people/companies to interfere with their domestic policies.
I get your point, and I think it’s a valid one but I still believe that it’s a question of perspective. Tim Cook is speaking as a human being about a humanitarian tragedy.
I’ve seen Tim Cook be critical of at least one European topic, the tax situation in Ireland. It’s relevant to Apple’s business so the criticism to me is valid.
I’d say a lot of nations don’t like other nations being critical of or interfering with their domestic policies. Some nations have a tendency to be critical of and interfering with domestic policies and thus they are not really appreciated.
As James has said, he expect Tim Cook to be respectful and sincere, and my feeling in this case he was, especially as one human being speaking to others.
