Apple CEO Cook tweets condolences for victims of Islamic terrorist attack in Barcelona

Apple CEO Tim cook has tweeted, in Spanish, condolences after the latest Islamic terrorist attack in Europe, this time in Barcelona, Spain.

A driver of a van mowed down crowds of tourists on Barcelona’s most famous avenue on Thursday, killing at least 13 people in an attack that was claimed by Islamic State. Officials said the death toll could rise, with more than 100 people injured, some seriously.

“Hours beforehand, one person was killed in an explosion in a house in a town southwest of Barcelona, in an incident linked to the attack, police added. Residents of the house were preparing explosives, a police source said,” Andrés González and Richard Martin report for Reuters. “As the manhunt continued into the night, police said several attackers were killed in a shootout during an operation against what they called a possible ‘terror attack’ in Cambrils, another town south of Barcelona.”

“Earlier in Barcelona, witnesses said the white van zigzagged at high speed down Las Ramblas, a busy avenue thronged with tourists, ramming pedestrians and cyclists, sending some hurtling through the air and leaving bodies strewn in its wake,” González and Martin report. “Islamic State’s Amaq news agency said: ‘The perpetrators of the Barcelona attack are soldiers of the Islamic State and carried out the operation in response to calls for targeting coalition states’ – a reference to a U.S.-led coalition against the Sunni militant group.”

“If the involvement of Islamist militants is confirmed, it would be the latest in a string of attacks in the past 13 months in which they have used vehicles to bring carnage to the streets of European cities” González and Martin report. “That modus operandi – crude, deadly and very hard to prevent – has killed well over 100 people in Nice, Berlin, London and Stockholm… It was the deadliest attack in Spain since March 2004, when Islamist militants placed bombs on commuter trains in Madrid, killing 191 people and wounding more than 1,800.”

On Thursday, Cook tweeted, “Attacks tragic and senseless in Barcelona. Our thoughts today are with all our friends and colleagues in that great city.”

MacDailyNews Take: This adds to a very sad list of such tweets to which, hopefully, no more will ever need to be added.

So much senseless death, grievous injury, and needless pain.

      1. Thank you for pointing that out, much appreciated. The rough translation from Spanish of Tim Cook’s message is: “Tragic and senseless attacks in Barcelona. Our thoughts are today with all our friends and companions in that great city.”

    1. Anybody who can watch a bunch of outside agitators come to a quiet American college town and march around with torches chanting Nazi, anti-semitic, and racist slogans and then say “a lot of them are good people” is a Nazi apologist.

Nazi apologists do not have the moral right to criticize Tim Cook or anybody else until they get their own priorities in order.

    2. I assume Towertone is simply using dark humour. I have been on these posts for many many years back in the days where the posts were filled with comments that would make me laugh out loud. Incredibly funny, slapstick, satirical, comments. Not the nasty, moronic stuff we see today. Towertone was one of the funny ones and I looked forward to reading his comments along with the other regulars.

      1. Agreed Buster. MDN was never a haven of agreement (nor should it be), but I miss Ampar, Chrissy One, Zune Tang, et al., and the wit and light-hearted humour that once characterised this site.

        1. Me too. I remember when it started changing too, it was surprising, hard to believe. I think Chrissy One left a couple of times and returned, only to leave again. I learned a lot here, it’s so political now, from the top down. Sad!

  1. The Religion of Peace strikes again!
I’ll bet the scum who went on a stabbing spree in Finland this morning was practicing “Peace” also.

Hey Europe and Netherlands, “How’s that immigration policy working for you?” IDIOT Leaders living in a Fantasy World.

    1. Poland is also suppressing its independent media and restricting its independent judiciary. It is rapidly developing into an authoritarian ethno-state. Not a good model for America.

  2. Cook, always happy to play sad, do nothing, and look like a noble person. Over, and over, and over again. Cook will never call out Radical Islam, or make any effort to support eradication of these animals.

    1. Damn it if I hate to agree, but I do. At this point I consider everything he says to be PR, there is no heart in it, and I actually consider it to be shameful and transparent. I don’t believe that most of these mouth pieces for ‘big hearts’ have the remotest capacity for genuine empathy. My wife is from one of those countries, and being pandered to is not high on the list of people that live there regarding solutions to their problems. In fact, a lot of them consider it an insult to their intelligence and an act of presumed superiority.

      1. I totally sympathize with the hurt families in Spain/Europe now.

but as for Tim Cook, he’s not a politician. Or a European.
What exactly do you expect him to do in practical sense?

The citizens in those countries elected their politicians, who are enacting whatever the rules about muslims, anti terrorism, immigration etc there.

So what can Cook do? He is a USA businessman and not a citizen of those countries. Even CRITICIZING those European politicians or their policies , as an OUTSIDER would mean Cook/Apple would be perceived by MANY Europeans as INSULTING the citizens like YOUR WIFE’s people

I remember Europeans being really high and mighty and attacking USA for not taking in more Muslims. There were so many European political meetings where they criticized USA immigration checks as being too long any how much better European politicians like Merkel were to let in millions of muslims with minimum security checks.

If Apple was to criticize European politicians and say for example they should be more vigilant on radical Islam tens of millions of Europeans will get angry at Apple (I have zero doubt there would protestors like those outside the G20 etc meetings around Apple stores if Apple did such a thing).

I’ve often criticized Cook before on other things but this?

        1. You might be surprised that Tim Cook is also a human being just like the ones killed in Barcelona. Yes I know that some are speculating that those from his home nation are devolving into another species but we are not at that point yet.

Apple does business all around the world, they are a global company so anything that affects humanity will affect Apple.

What I often find amazing and challenging about criticizing is the lack of providing an alternative. What are the alternatives here for Tim Cook in this situation?

        2. you are replying to my post but I’m not sure if I’m getting my point across.

I’m saying Tim Cook can sympathize with Europeans but he can’t do much more (like criticize European politics for lax anti terrorism laws etc) as others are suggesting as he’s not a European. Many Europeans don’t really like USA people/companies to interfere with their domestic policies.

        3. I get your point, and I think it’s a valid one but I still believe that it’s a question of perspective. Tim Cook is speaking as a human being about a humanitarian tragedy.

I’ve seen Tim Cook be critical of at least one European topic, the tax situation in Ireland. It’s relevant to Apple’s business so the criticism to me is valid.

I’d say a lot of nations don’t like other nations being critical of or interfering with their domestic policies. Some nations have a tendency to be critical of and interfering with domestic policies and thus they are not really appreciated.

As James has said, he expect Tim Cook to be respectful and sincere, and my feeling in this case he was, especially as one human being speaking to others.

        4. ?

here is Cook’s tweet again ” Attacks tragic and senseless in Barcelona. Our thoughts today are with all our friends and colleagues in that great city”

          I thought that’s respectful.

but in your first post you even said: “At this point I consider everything he says to be PR, there is no heart in it, and I actually consider it to be shameful and transparent. … a lot of them consider it an insult to their intelligence and an act of presumed superiority.”

          insult their intelligence… presumed superiority?
expect him to be respectful ? (he was insulting in his post ?)

It seems we are reading a completely different tweet.

I’ll stop here as I’ve realized that when people are so ingrained in seeing something there’s no point in showing another point of view.

  3. Apple SJW Tim Cook virtue signalling yet again. Sigh.

I was tired of it when he started doing it years ago (safely after Steve Jobs shuffled off this mortal coil, of course). Is anyone else getting tired of it, yet?

  4. Spare us the meaningless tweets, the push for transgender toilets, the tampon-equipped mens rooms, the phony meetings with Trump, the pandering to anybody-but-whitey, the black tie events with leftist bigots, and the rest of it. Go back and learn from Jobs how to shut the _uck up and build great products. You are running out of Jobs products roadmaps … so what are you going to do then, social warrior?

  5. Hey there! Quick question that’s entirely off topic. Do
you know how to make your site mobile friendly?
My site looks weird when viewing from my apple iphone.
I’m trying to find a template or plugin that might be able to
correct this issue. If you have any suggestions, please share.
    Many thanks!
