“The HomePod firmware accidentally made public by Apple, which replicates code apparently intended for the iPhone 8, is proving a goldmine of information,” Ben Lovejoy reports for 9to5Mac.
“Steve Troughton-Smith has been digging into the code for a virtual Home button,” Lovejoy reports. “In a tweet, he said that the code reveals that the Home button can be resized on-screen, and that it can be hidden.”

While this leakfest isn’t great for the next-gen iPhone’s surprise factor (to say the least), it most certainly is great for getting the name “HomePod” out there far and wide prior to release.

Why is all this iPhone code in a smart speaker in the first place? It doesn’t make sense to me as most hardware features of iPhone are absent from Homepod and I would have assumed that it uses a massively stripped down operating system.
Maybe Apple truly believes in iOS as DNA for all Apple small/mobile devices. A single source for everything. Literally ‘Think(ing) Different’. /s
