Apple’s iPhone 7 sales soar as rumored iPhone 8 looms

“If anything is clear over the past week, it’s that Apple’s iPhone isn’t slowing down,” Don Reisinger reports for Fortune.

“Over the last several days, a lot of news about Apple has focused largely on the iPhone’s current strong sales and what is possibly and even brighter future,” Reisinger reports. “First, a report surfaced from research firm Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) that said that Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus sales are soaring.”

Reisinger reports, “It was followed by analyst reports that said Apple’s still unannounced iPhone 8 may ignite a “‘supercycle’ of sales growth because of pent-up consumer demand.”

  1. The iPhone 8 is veiled in contradicting rumors, exaggeration, prototype robbery exhibition and mental manipulation by the usual suspects. IOW: It isn’t real yet.

Want a new phone? Buy a real one. I certainly like mine. 😀

  2. I checked out the iPhone7 a few weeks back and compared it to my iP6S. It was definitely lighter and faster. I liked the force touch home button.
Probably will wait for the iP8 or is it oging to be 7S?

  3. I’m sure there are a few people who are buying older iPhones but it’s not going to be enough for Apple to meet quarterly expectations. The biggest problem is Apple shouldn’t have to keep heavily relying on iPhone sales to make revenue. Apple would best be served by a side business to supplement weak iPhone sales revenue. August’s quarterly earnings report will likely be a huge letdown for shareholders despite Tim Cook saying everything is just fine in Apple land.

    1. And a substantial portion of those revenues come from iPhone sales. Exactly what “side business” should Apple pluck out of thin air to supplement weak iPhone revenue? Keep in mind that Apple already has an ecosystem of products and services – you could consider these to be “side businesses” if it makes you happy.

Take a look at Apple’s financial statements and you will see revenue contributions from iPads, Macs, services, and other products totaling tens of $B per year. Those “side businesses” are not inconsequential. In 2016 it took about $5.bB to make it into the Fortune 500. Around $13.8B would have gotten you into the top 200 and $27.5B into the top 100. To put this into perspective, Apple’s existing non-iPhone revenue elements combined are roughly on the scale of Disney (and growing). You cannot just “wish” Apple into popping out another Disney or Target.

On the one hand, it is nice to have diversification in Apple’s income stream. On the other hand, who would not love to have the iPhone?

  4. The story headline is a con. He gives no evidence for iPhone 7 sales soaring.

    – “research firm Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) that said that Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus sales are soaring.”

It says nothing of the kind. What it DOES say is:
“The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus accounted for 81% of all U.S. iPhone sales during the three-month period ending July 1, CIRP said this week. That’s the highest combined sales percentage for the iPhone 7 line since its release last year.”

Soaring as a percentage is NOT soaring. CIRP gives NO sales number data – only model percentages for the USA.

So there is no way of knowing if total sales have gone up or down from their data.

As for the “iPhone 8 may be a super cycle” this has been going around for a long time.

    Save your time and skip.

  5. I love both my 7 Plus and SE, but I am absolutely going to upgrade to the newer bezeless model because as much as I love the 7 Plus, I have to admit the footprint is just too big. I never dropped a phone accidentally this much until the 7
