Samsung admits Apple’s next-gen iPhones are going to hurt

“Did Samsung just say it’s afraid of the iPhone 8?” Chris Smith reports for BGR. “

Samsung on Thursday posted it’s earnings results for the second quarter of the year, revealing record profits driven by strong component sales.”

MacDailyNews Take: To Apple. For iPhone.

“The mobile division did not post record sales because of a decrease in mid-range and entry-level phone sales,” Smith reports. “Samsung expects increased competition in the mobile landscape in the second half of the year, and while it doesn’t specifically mention the iPhone 8, it seems the company is somewhat afraid of Apple’s upcoming handset.”

Smith reports, “‘In the second half, demand for smartphones and tablets is forecast to increase as the market enters a period of strong seasonality,’ Samsung said in a blog post. ‘However, competition is expected to intensify as new smartphone models are released by competitors.’ …It sounds like Samsung is expecting lower sales for both its flagships in the coming quarter. Coincidentally, that’s the quarter when Apple announces new devices during its annual fall iPhone event.”

MacDailyNews Take: The slavish copier’s full press release is here. It also reveals that Samsung will be spending big on “marketing” in order to attempt convince the great unwashed to waste their money on pretend iPhones instead of the real thing.

Rumor has it that every Samsung iPhone wannabe comes with a free t-shirt:
I'm with stupid

        1. BG, your hate for Apple is obvious. You hate Apple so much that you don’t even know the truth that Samsung says about itself – When asked about its lower R&D as compared to other large companies just a few years ago: “Samsung does things different. They look at the market and see what is selling and them make that.” Translation – We copy what is already selling!

IF you are not scared to do this – do some research on how much money they throw at legal defense to get around law suits for stealing.

Oh yes, when you mention Apple’s stealing – look at where these are tied into FRAND patents. But then you probably don’t have the ability to understand FRAND patents.

        1. a major attack on North Korea would incite an immediate response that would likely include armed incursion into South Korea, on top of disrupting commerce in the surrounding region. I am not advocating such a move, just analyzing the likely results in which Samsung would suffer greatly. Unfortunately, impacts to Samsung would flow through to Apple in the form of a massive shortfall in memory chips, displays, and other electronic components.

For now, people just have to accept that Apple’s success also benefits Samsung. But that may not always be true. Apple is taking steps to reduce its reliance on Samsung.
