Apple’s prepaid iPhone deals mean everyone can afford them

“Just in case you needed a little more proof that Apple really wants to expand the iPhone market, just take a look at how it is scooping up presence in the prepaid smartphone market,” Jonny Evans writes for Apple Must.

“Apple has always grabbed the majority slice of the high-end iPhone-plus-wannabe-iPhone market, but has traditionally left the lower parts of the market to Android device vendors to fight over. This has led to lots of consumers using cheap Android devices, having a rubbish experience, and then migrating to iPhone when they can,” Evans writes. “Apple clearly wants to improve this.”

“Apple has racked up a host of deals to offer up subsidized iPhone’s as prepaid devices,” Evans writes. “The company is quite clearly working to make sure that it still commands loyalty at the high-end of the market, but also offers other people the chance to get onto the iOS road show”

  1. Last year I bought an iPhone 7 unlocked from the Apple Store. I picked up a SIM card a less expensive provider and have saved every month. The option has always been there, just get he unlocked version of the phone.

  2. Do consumers really want old iPhones when they can get shiny new Android smartphones for the same price? I clearly see why Wall Street values Alphabet higher than Apple. Alphabet seems to understand human nature better than Apple. Consumers are always looking for bargains and ads are going to let those people know how Apple is trying to trick consumers into buying old iPhones which are no longer cutting edge.

It doesn’t matter if the iPhones are of higher quality than brand new Android smartphones. It’s just a matter of new vs. old and that’s enough to sway consumers to the new. Meanwhile, Alphabet is going to keep trying to get manufacturers to sell cheaper and cheaper Android smartphones to suck the smartphone market away from Apple. Wall Street will definitely be betting on Alphabet because they believe Apple’s strategy won’t work. The hoodwinked masses are happy buying Android smartphones because they’re cheap.

    1. Yes, they do. Consumers really want iPhones, new or refurb!

Apple has always been, and continues to be, an aspirational brand. Most of those who buy cheap Androids are doing it because they can’t afford iPhones, and the moment they win lottery, they will throw those Androids away and buy themselves iPhones.

In all seriousness, there is really no need for Apple to ever discount their hardware. No brand out there is more coveted than Apple, and the main reason that is so is because they never discount their stuff. There is never two-for-one, 40%off, nothing. The best you can hope for, around Black Friday, is 10% off.

No other brand can do that.
