You’re neglecting the fact that unemployment has been on a downward trend for a long time now. It (U3) actually ticked up .1 since May. In terms of jobs added, there’s been 80,000 fewer jobs added in the first 6 months of 2017 as compared to the last 6 months of 2016.
How many jobs is 80,00? That’s 4,000 more than the entire coal industry in the U.S..
Trump’s best showing for jobs added is 232,000 for the month of Feb. Obama’s best showing is 358,000.

In the current brass lines, Craig Federighi is the only one I can think of with great tech knowledge, great personality and mandatory hairdo. Don’t worry about supply chain management. Anyone with greed can squeeze suppliers and let them do what you want.
Yes, Elon Mask is far more fit to Apple than Cook, but he is a bit on wild side, although he dreams, conceives and actually execute with some results. Apple’s cash coffer is big enough now to take his wild adventure. You need only one big hit (or two).
But seriously, I like to see Scott Forstall back. His firing created a bad and probably unfair image of him. But my theory is, when Jobs appointed Cook as the next CEO, he was not expecting Cook to be a visionary or innovative CEO. Jobs just wanted Apple to be in a steady hand to make the company financially stable for several years until it is solidly on its feet, which Cook has accomplished. I cannot think that Jobs was expecting Cook to exercise any tech imagination to be innovative.
After watching the recent interview of Forstall, I could not escape the thought that Jobs was thinking of Forestall as the CEO of true Apple, but only after Cook, and may even told Scott something on his death bed. Jobs and Forstall sounded like very very close and admiring and caring each other and Jobs seems to be keenly aware of Forstall’s talent. Unfortunately, Forstall probably (and unconsciously) threatened Cook’s position, which resulted in such a swift firing of him. Firing Scott was one of the first jobs Cook did.

Apple doesn’t need a personality to excite the masses during twice a year events, it needs a product guy with complex supply chain and human resource management experience.
The only candidate that fits that mold is Jeff Williams. I don’t know enough about Eddy Cue’s credentials, Craig Federighi. Angela Ahrendts is a brilliant retail leader, but no supply chain/product experience. Shiller’s strength is marketing/sales, not the best background for a product development company.

Ahrendts always gets thumbs down from this gallery of thumb suckers because of her disqualifying femaleness and supposedly damning evidence of “what has she done? Nothing” which is total BS — she’s run retail for years now, without the controversy of Browett, and retail is thriving, if numbers have any damn meaning. Some dismiss her as an ingénue but it takes a hard-headed, cold-blooded bitch to turn around a foundering multinational like Burberry. That doesn’t happen all by itself, by magic. It takes vision and strong leadership.

I didn’t actually reference or think of Steve Jobs. I thought instead about how Apple the business succeeds versus fails. My view is from an historical perspective.
Nonetheless, despite his uniqueness, having a disruptive, inventive, pestering, wise and persistent Steve Jobs-esque CEO would be great! But he was unique and is, IMHO, irreplaceable.

What I and dozens of others have been saying for YEARS now is tech experience matters as CEO of Apple. The only way to make the magic and bring it back. I suspect that the legacy of Tim Cook will be similar to John Sculley, perhaps not quite that bad. After Cook, Schiller will cause proliferation of options like the Proforma era because he enthusiastically tries to satisfy “every price point”. Hopefully, another infusion will reoccur after that, bringing Forstall back to be the second coming of Jobs to save Apple and return it to technological triumphs rather than just monetarily successful.
