Analyst: Apple Watch and AirPods dominate ahead of next-gen iPhone

“Raymond James analyst Tavis McCourt today reiterates an Outperform rating on Apple,” Tiernan Ray reports for Barron’s, “and offers what he terms a ‘data dump’ on the trends for the company while the world waits for the presumed ‘iPhone 8’ this fall, and finds that the story for the moment is all about peripherals, specifically Apple Watch, the AirPods wireless headphones, and the forthcoming HomePod wireless speaker.”

Ray reports, “‘The peripheral businesses, namely Apple Watch and AirPods, appear to be strong,’ writes McCourt, ‘and initial interest in HomePod seems better than the tepid media reaction would suggest based on our June survey.'”

MacDailyNews Take: Wait, the media’s wrong? (snicker)

Ray reports, “McCourt offers some thoughts on the feedback he got in a survey his firm conducted pertaining to Apple Watch: ‘Our proprietary CESI [Consumer Electronics Strength Index] score for Apple Watch is consistent with very high double-digit y/y unit growth globally, at a very steady level since the Series 2 launch last fall. This follows easy comps from a year ago when y/y trends were down meaningfully, in our opinion. Likewise, our June consumer survey was very positive for Apple Watch. As shown below, 12% of respondents indicated they would purchase an Apple Watch in the future, the highest in our survey’s history, and approaching Fitbit-like levels. Additionally, 22% of iPhone owners indicated they would purchase an Apple Watch in the future, again the highest in our survey’s history, and part of a very steady, and Impressive trend of increasing demand from iPhone owners.'”

If you don’t have an Apple Watch, yet, you are missing out.

If, beyond an iPhone, you also have a Mac, an iPad, AirPods, etc. and still don’t have an Apple Watch, you are really missing out.

  1. Can’t miss what I don’t need. Who is anybody to presume that my lifestyle and needs are equal to theirs?… When the watch can operate on its own without needing my phone nearby, then I’ll reconsider. Alexa, too, is amusing but I don’t need it. Or a Siri speaker. Got a phone. Sonos home theater system. Pro monitoring speakers, several different pairs, I use to create and consume music. I don’t travel. Work at home. Self-employed. No. Don’t need a watch. Yet.

  2. “Wait, the media’s wrong? (snicker)”

I sincerely hope that this is not a politically motivated snarky “fake news” attack by MDN on the media. I have seen far too much of than over the past couple of years and more. The popular approach of attempting to undermine most media sources in order to advance a specific agenda is reprehensible.

If MDN had scoffed at analysts rather than the “media,” in general, then I would not have objected.

    1. You sound paranoid.

Read it as: “Wait, the media’s wrong [about Apple]? (snicker)”

The best way to consume “news” is to cast a wide net.MacDailyNews Take, May 25, 2017

As always, readers of “news” need to consider the sources and interpret what they are are being told accordingly. The more disparate sources you can find, the better. And we don’t mean different newspaper, network, website brands that are all owned by the same conglomerate. Determining the actual ownership of your “news” sources is an investment that requires a bit of time, but it is very enlightening.MacDailyNews Take, June 17, 2015

    2. The popular approach of attempting to undermine Fox News Channel in order to advance a specific agenda is reprehensible.

One of the reasons the Leftists are so angry at President Trump isn’t so much because he won, even though Leftists are incapable of being gracious losers. It’s that they were told that the Second Coming of Typhoid Mary would occur, and like all children, are mad that Papa CNN and Mama MSNBC were wrong.

See what I did there? They aren’t angry that CNN and MSNBC and the entire Democrat Media Complex lied to them, but that they were wrong. Which is, of course, how they are still able to hold their Parental Media Betters in high regard, even as CNN implodes.

Every day since the election, then, Leftists have tried everything under the sun to de-legitimize a duly-elected president. He didn’t win the popular vote! “Not My President”! Find faithless electors! Impeach him! More than 50 classless Democrats boycotted the inauguration. And, of course, the “Russian hacking” claims.

(Which reminds me, what exactly are those claims? That the Russians somehow interfered with the election? You mean the way Barack Obama did in Israel, or some other way? It’s also a bit odd because I should think Putin would have been on Team I’m With Her, because her failures as Secretary of State would make her a pushover compared to a dealmaker like Trump.)

Thus, we witnessed the first stage of the Kübler-Ross grief cycle, hallmarked by avoidance of the truth (he won), confusion (that he won), fear (that he was Hitler and would club baby seals), numbness (the faces on network anchors were gold), and blame (those stupid Americans, like 83,000 unemployed coal workers, who voted for him).

The hate being blasted at Trump is partially the result of stage two: anger. Oh, the frustration, anxiety, and irritation are non-stop. Leftists and the media are calling him every name in the book. They focus on every single thing he says or does, in a way they never did with George W. Bush, and certainly never did with Dear Leader.

Yet it’s more than just the stages of grief that Leftists are exhibiting. Another major reason they hate him is because he fights back. Not only that, he is skilled at media jiu-jitsu, and fights back in an effective manner. And when he does so, all they can do is call him even more names, and that his tweets are “un-presidential”.

What did they expect? Trump is a New Yorker, who didn’t build an empire by wearing a pink pussy hat to every real estate closing. Trump has always been a pugilist. He’s always been crass. Why would anyone expect him to suddenly change? This is the behavior that got him into the White House, and will keep him there, for better or for worse.

Remember that scene in “The Untouchables”, where Sean Connery is educating Kevin Costner on how to get Al Capone? “He pulls a knife, you pull a gun. They put one of yours in the hospital, you put one of theirs in the morgue”. That’s Trump, and Leftists are mad that they keep ending up in the morgue.

Look at the brilliant CNN-WWE tweet. CNN was caught red-handed in yet another hilariously embarrassing bust by James O’Keefe. CNN isn’t even pretending to not be the ultimate Fake News Network anymore. And Trump crushed them. It was a knockout punch, judging by the hysteria (the foam-at-the-mouth-why-so-serious-hysteria), especially at CNN.

They scream and yell, “how can a president say such a thing?”

Well, because you’ve called him Hitler, fascist, racist, homophobic, Islamophobic, man-child – and there are a lot more. However, Trump is so hated that when I tried to Google “nasty things said about Trump”, I get scores of results about the worst things Trump has said. Nice to see that Google isn’t manipulating results. That fine. Here’s what “comedian” Samantha Bee has said. Oh, and here’s a delightful list from the Mad-Pussy-Hatters at Jezebel. May as well throw these in for good measure.

Leftists call his wife a “whore”, and run around with signs saying “rape Melania”. They hold up his bloody and severed head as a “joke”, call for his assassination as a “joke”, call his 10-year-old son a rapist and autistic and a homeschool shooter, and they are suddenly claiming the moral high ground?

This is why they hate him so much. Because despite doing everything they can think of, Trump is still standing. Then he punches back. His blows are surgical and hilarious. They take next to no effort, while the Left is literally expending all its energy and having no impact. He’s using the media’s own tools against it. He’s using social media – the Great Equalizer – against them. He’s using Alinsky against them. He’s kicking them when they’re down.

And the more he fights back, the more the Left rages…and the more the media exposes themselves as being utterly corrupt, and how truly hateful the Left has become. Nor is this a fringe element. This is the Left. They are putting on a show for all to see, and are too stupid to realize that everyday Americans are paying attention. You think Democrat losses in 2016 were bad? Just wait.

        1. Disingenuously claiming that 32 million Americans will be thrown off their existing health coverage isn’t the best opening for a rational discussion.

Some people believe that the U.S. Federal Government shouldn’t be in the health insurance business at all. Imagine that.

        2. How is it “disingenuous” or irrational to cite the bill analysis by the Congressional Budget Office—a body run by Republican appointees of the Senate Majority Leader and Speaker of the House—as to the impact of repealing the Affordable Healthcare Act without replacing it?

They (not me) came up with the finding that 32 million fewer people would have health coverage under that proposal in ten years than would have coverage under current law. That is almost exactly 10% of the US population, although the impact would be much, much higher among certain segments of the population… children, for example.

It hardly seems “disingenuous” to compare the impact of that with Typhoid Mary (whom you inserted into this discussion). Mary Fallon only caused three deaths. Denying routine preventative and chronic-condition care to a tenth of the US population would be enormously more deadly.

You clearly have a philosophical position that the Federal Government should not be involved in healthcare. I think that ship sailed back in 1965 when Medicare and Medicaid were adopted. Fifty years on, most Americans would be appalled at the notion that their elected officials would allow people to die for a previously-abandoned philosophical principle. State and local governments, much less private charities, are hardly in a position to raise enough revenue to step in if the Federal government steps away.

I suppose you would also repeal the current Federal law that forbids hospital emergency departments from rejecting patients who present with a genuine emergency, but cannot pay. The alternative is, quite literally, to kick these people to the curb so they can die in the street.

The portion of uncompensated emergency care that is not covered by the taxpayers is borne by everybody else who uses the hospital. That expense would be astronomically higher if the patients who are currently receiving preventative, diagnostic, prenatal, chronic-condition, and similar services through Medicaid or the Affordable Healthcare Act were instead forced to wait until their condition worsened enough for them to gain emergency admission for inpatient hospital treatment.

That would present society with a choice—simply accept a massive increase in child and adult mortality or find a way to pay even more for public health services. Finding a reasonable alternative to the Affordable Care Act is exactly what the responsible Republican members of the House and Senate have been trying to do. Suggesting that they should not just give up and let the Grim Reaper sort things out is hardly a “leftist” notion.
