“We’re just over two months away from Apple announcing its next iPhone, which means the rumor mill is operating at full blast,” Bill Maurer writes for Seeking Alpha. “At this point, the amount of rumors/leaks continue to pile up to the point where so many will not be true.”
“A recent article on Forbes lists roughly two dozen primary rumors, and there are plenty more out there if you do a quick search. Many of these revolve around the rumored iPhone 8, expected to be the most important of the new devices coming this year,” Maurer writes. “The latest expectation is that the 8 will have a 5.8 inch OLED display, with Apple pushing the screen closer to the edge of the device [meaning physically smaller devices akin to the size of the iPhone 7, but sporting iPhone 7 Plus-sized displays – MDN Ed.].”
“Are we getting to the point where smartphones are getting too big? I certainly think so, as the latest Plus models have a height that’s a tenth of an inch more than the length of a US dollar bill,” Maurer writes. “Many of these phones don’t fit in normal size pockets, so they can be tough to carry around.”

MacDailyNews Take: After OLED production rates increase to accommodate Apple’s needs, the “iPhone 7s Plus” very may well be the last of Apple’s physically “almost too large” iPhones and Apple will be able to go edge-to-edge from here on out. Of course, like iPhone 6s Plus, the “iPhone 7s Plus” may stay on the market for two years (into 2019) so we’ll be seeing plenty of Big Boy iPhone Plus models around for some time to come.
With iPhone 8, Apple will have properly-sized iPhones with properly-sized iPhone displays!

I hear it makes phone calls. Is that true?
I still love the early report (was it here?) where someone complained that this new iPod had one major drawback – the phone would sometimes ring while you were listening to your tunes!
I’m looking forward to an iPhone whose size could be described as an iPhone 8 Plus. One can hope 🙂

I’d be happy with a 6″ screen, but will settle for 5.8″. From what I understand the new, larger screen won’t be any wider than the current plus models (perhaps even narrower), the usable screen space will just be taller?
True.
Based on a recent MDN article claiming a 5.8 diagonal size and an 18.5:9 aspect ratio the screen width would be narrower.
If those two numbers are true, which I tend to believe, the new screen width would be about halfway between the width of the current 7plus size and the current 7 minus
I’m still rocking a 4S. Teenagers tease me.
In my opinion this is a step back, I think Apple should have just kept the same iPhone sizes and expanded the screen to the edges. I have the 6s Plus and I’ve become accustomed to the size, I don’t like small phones, and my hands are not huge but not small either. The upgrade cycle between the iPhone 5s and the iPhone e 6 and 6 Plus were huge because a lot of people like bigger phones. But I’ll try out of the OLED model and see how it feels in the hand.
