Apple’s iCloud Backup outage continues for small percentage of users

“If you’ve had problems recently with your iCloud backups, you’re not alone,” Jim Tanous reports for The Mac Observer. “A service outage affecting iCloud Backup that started early Tuesday has yet to be resolved as of the date of this article’s publication.”

“The outage thus far only affects a small percentage of iCloud Backup users (Apple says ‘less than one percent’), but given Apple’s huge iOS install base, it’s likely that many hundreds of thousands of users are affected,” Tanous reports. “Other iCloud and Apple online services are still functioning.”

“Apple lists the issue as ‘ongoing’ and has not provided comment what caused it or when users can expect a resolution,” Tanous reports. “Those affected can keep an eye on Apple’s System Status website for updates. Until the problem is solved, just be careful with your device and data and, if possible, temporarily switch to local iDevice backups via iTunes.”

MacDailyNews Take: Are you among those affected?

  1. Never used this as the pitiful amount of storage Apple Gives you after spending thousands on their products and subscriptions does not cut it. can’t even back up an iPhone never mind my Macs.

    1. Agree completely the $.99 option per month is ridiculous (50Gb). This is Apple’s way of being greedy and sucking users into paying monthly fees. They ought be ashamed. What a joke. It costs more to charge the .99 cents

    1. Where did you get the 0.1% figure you quote. Don’t see it here or the source article. 0.9% (also less than 1%) of over 10’s of millions of iOS users would easily work out to “many hundreds of thousands”. On the bright side since there is a fee for storage larger than 5GB per account there was probably less data affected in iCloud vs the amount should the competition have had the same thing happen.

  2. Yeah, I could not get an iCould backup to restore yesterday after trying 4 times. A large backup too.

Ended up having to setup my device as a new phone. Kinda sucked, but everything is super fast now. But I sure miss all of my Activity data being gone.
