“The new 10.5-inch iPad Pro is the current darling of the Apple tablet line-up and my Apple World Today compadre, Steve Sande, loves it,” Dennis Sellers writes for Apple World Today. “However, I’ve gone with the revamped 12.9-inch version.”
“Why? Up to now, I’ve not found the iPad Pro to be a suitable laptop replacement, despite what CEO Tim Cook may think,” Sellers writes. “However, with iOS 11, I feel this may change. If so, I want my new ‘laptop’ to have as much screen real estate as possible.”
“The screen of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is simply gorgeous with its 2732 x 2048 resolution… [and] TrueTone technology,” Sellers writes. “Ppgrading to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro was a no-brainer for me. And if iOS offers the advantages I think it will, the tablet may finally become sidekick to my iMac I always hoped it would be.”

MacDailyNews Take: Exactly our thought process, if we were choosing between iPad Pros only for our backpacks, but we have the complicating factor of really, really, really wanting new 12-inch MacBooks, too. If we go that route, it might make more sense for us to choose the 10.5-inch iPad Pro due to weight considerations. If we determine that we can go solely with the iPad Pro and iOS 11, then we’ll be getting 12.9-inch models for the display real estate, too.
If you’re choosing between the 12.9- or 10.5-inch iPad Pro, make sure to go handle them in person before deciding, if at all possible!
I have a beautiful 15″ Retina MBP and no need of a 12″ Mac Book. Compared the 10.5 to the 12.9 iPad Pro’s yesterday at the Apple Store and while bigger is glorious when used more like a laptop it’s much more unwieldy otherwise when hand held. The 10.5 hits the hand-held sweet spot for me and being slightly bigger than my old iPad a bonus. Your mileage and use/need may vary. It does require you to look at both and make sure so buyer’s remorse doesn’t become a problem.
Guess no one uses them to read books anymore. 12.9″? Not a chance.

I just bought 2 12.9 512g to replace 1-9.7 airs & 1 12.9 frist gen.
There is such a small difference in price why not go large.

We will probably keep these for at least 3 years.
We use our 6plus for hand held stuff and bought the wifi
12.9s because we can tether to our phones that have unlimited access. This is really a laptop replacement w/o
the disadvantages of a laptop.
There are no disadvantages to a laptop, unless you’re comparing it to a desktop workstation. The 12.9 is just an ungainly size for a tablet
Man, how must it be to have work tasks so meager that tablet can suffice as a laptop replacement.
To those of us in the professional world, there will never be a time when a new iPad is a replacement for anything apart from an old iPad.
Don’t get me wrong, I have a 10.5 on order, but it serves a very different purpose in my world, and the 12.9 is just too damn bulky to be a touch device.

I don’t agree. I guess if you’re a big fish in the cardboard-box-manufacturing industry, you probably feel the need for 10TB hard drives, and 20 gig of RAM as you travel to the big sales pitch, at an ASDA in Hull. But modern business?
I work in media/technology industry, and don’t know anyone who likes laptops. Everyone’s gravitating to tablets – to do absolutely everything. I don’t know what you do, but I can’t believe you have more hardware/software demands than web developers, programme managers, and tech product managers. The truth is, I doubt you really know how to use Tech, so just go for the “bigger is better” mantra
