Apple Watch wishes you ‘Happy Birthday’ in watchOS 4

“Among multiple software announcements that came out of WWDC last week, Apple unveiled details about watchOS 4, the newest operating system that will arrive on Apple Watch devices later this fall,” Mitchel Broussard reports for MacRumors.

“As developers spend more time with the watchOS 4 beta,” Broussard reports, “new surprises in the software become uncovered, and now MacRumors forum member mrToasty has come across a previously unseen birthday-related message that Apple has included in watchOS 4.”

Broussard reports, “On your birthday, Apple will send a “Happy Birthday!” notification to your Apple Watch, and when you tap on it your watch face will be showered with celebratory balloons.”

MacDailyNews Take: Our Apple Watch Nike+ (and Apple Watch with the Nike Run Club app, for that matter) makrs users’ birthdays with the message “Birthday miles bring birthday smiles” (or something to that effect) after completing a run on your birthday.

In a happy coincidence, today is the MacDailyNews‘ founder’s birthday. After he ran a 5K earlier today, he got the Nike birthday message on his Apple Watch.

Whatever Apple can do to increase Apple Watch personalization, the better. The more personalized the device/service is, the stickier it becomes.

    1. While Apple is doing this Amazon just bought Whole Foods.
I think everyone has to eat and Bezos just staked a huge claim. How much do you want to bet Amazon Fresh will be rolling out in cities with Whole Foods.

      1. …was reading that, probably be groceries delivered to customers’ doorsteps by drones eventually.

        O wonder!
How many goodly creatures are there here!
How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world
        That has such people in’t!

        1. My bet is Amazon Fresh will be appearing in every city with a Whole Foods.

Amazon just stopped up the high end grocery market- those stores are all located in population dense, high income Zip Codes. There is no strong national second place at that end of the grocery market. Wal-Mart just shit a brick and so did Kroger. Amazon bought Jet to try to counter Amazon in retail and Bezos just bitch slapped them in groceries- their main growth market.

Meanwhile, Apple has Planet of the Apps and new wrist bands…

        2. It is infuriating to me that will all the capital, trusted brand equity and the creme de la creme of designers and engineers at Apple that they have become mediocre “also rans.”

I loathe Tim Cook’s myopic incompetence with the intensity of a thousand million burning suns.

        3. Responding to this particular subject (Amazon buying Whole Foods, competing with Walmart and Jet.com), I’m not sure what Apple could or should do. Go into grocery retail business?

There is no doubt that Amazon’s market valuation bubble will burst, as it is insanely unrealistic. Right now, largely because of this insanely high valuation, many people tend to believe that Amazon turns anything it touches into gold.

Let us not forget; people continue to line up at Apple stores for every new iPhone model. Ten years going.

Say what you will for Cook, but Apple as a brand seems to remain solidly on top, without a serious challenger.

    2. I’m surprised Tim Cook didn’t mention this heart warming addition to the Apple armamentarium. Oh, look, Apple luvs you so much that it takes your personal data you supply and sends you animated balloons. Ah, how sweet. How precious. Snif.

    1. Useless? Nay! It provides fanboys with the acknowledgement they would otherwise never experience in real life. Please, don’t deny them this small and insignificant moment of recognition in their sad and pathetic lives. C’mon, give them this one moment just one day a year.
