“Here at Mac Gamer HQ, we spend a lot of time talking about how great the gaming situation is on the Mac,” Mac Gamer HQ writes. “But this year, oh boy, it could go down as the best year for Mac gaming since OS X was released. Really.”
“The release of MacOS 10.12.4 in April seems to have provided the Metal upgrade developers needed to finish some of the top ports,” Mac Gamer HQ writes. “Within weeks of its release, we saw F1 2016, Total War: Warhammer and Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy released, and that promises more exciting releases for the next several months.”
Mac Gamer HQ writes, “In all honesty, the list of games released in the first four-plus months of the year would make a pretty good year-end list; add in the titles we know or strongly suspect are coming during the rest of the year and our list of Best Mac Games 2017 gets truly impressive.”

MacDailyNews Take: It’s been a long, long time since the Mac had such a strong selection of gaming titles.
And what happened to Lemmings, Power Pete, Z-spectre?
Those were the games!!
I want to see Loadrunner.
On Steam.
What you probably want to see is Lode Runner…
Pretty sure I picked up this link here a few months back…

Have fun, old timers! (I’m one of those! I have a password that I still use today that was the random set of letters I used to name one of my own levels I created in that awesome game back in the day. 🙂 )
Unreal Tournament 4. The carnage is back
Aspyr is the studio that stuck by Apple while all the GPU demanding games left for more capable hardware. Sim and Civilization are impressive strategy games that actually require one to think further ahead than the next nanosecond. Something a lot of arrogant self centered people could benefit from these days — thinking about more than their own instant gratification.
Anyone for some Marathon?
Mars Needs Women
I would love to see marathon make a comeback. Still one of my favorite games of all time.
Omg am I ever! Can’t wait to duel wield shot guns in duelity in an intense duel.
Great game. Great narrative. Bungie should revisit this franchise for the modern era.
The Marathon franchise is still thriving: it’s called “Halo”.
Gaming. What puerile diversions.
Most assuredly. Yet life is more rich and deep for exercising our natural sense of wonder. Play is not the enemy of work; it is both preparation for it and protection from its excesses.
I would love to see a Renaissance of Mac gaming, but I ask one thing-
No more free or cheap games with in-app purchases designed to mine the wallets of consumers.
There is far too much of that going on in both the Mac and iOS app stores. Maybe I am old school, but I prefer to pay in full up front.
When you hear analysts talking about monetization it means mining your wallet and not just once.
