Manchester woman survived Islamic terrorists bomb attack thanks to her Apple iPhone

“The husband of a woman who was struck by the blast that claimed 22 victims in Manchester on Monday has said her mobile phone may have saved her life,” Alexandra Topping reports for The Guardian. “Lisa Bridgett, 45, was speaking into her iPhone after the Ariana Grande concert when the explosion sent a steel nut towards her head.”

“Bridgett, who manages a boatyard in Pwllheli, North Wales, lost a finger when the nut struck and smashed her phone, and her husband Steve, 45, said she was ‘very lucky to be alive,'” Topping reports. “He said he believed the smashed phone had slowed down the nut, and diverted its trajectory. Bridgett, who was at the concert with her daughter and her daughter’s friend, sustained multiple injuries, including a fractured ankle and a large wound on her thigh. She had surgery on Tuesday and was due to have another operation.”

“Her husband said: ‘The fact that she was on the phone at the time probably saved her life. The nut has hit her phone, which has more than likely not only diverted it but also slowed it down considerably,'” Topping reports. “‘This may seem a bit graphic but at the end of the day it’s a reality,” said her husband. ‘She will make a full recovery although I don’t think the finger will grow back.'”

MacDailyNews Take: Good to see the husband’s sence of humor is somehow still intact.

Thankfully, Apple’s iPhone helped save another life.

We expect Apple will be contacting the Bridgett’s to replace Lisa’s iPhone with any model she chooses.

    1. “These rituals remind us of the principles that we hold in common, and Islam’s role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance, and the dignity of all human beings.”

      Barack Insane Obama

    2. The problem is not Islam as much as it is intolerance and is true of Christians who attack Planned Parenthood or execute Doctors in Church Foyers (Dr Tiller) as much as this crazy individual. Hyper Orthodox anything is not a formula for tolerance, brotherhood or peace.

As an agnostic I have no use for anybody who kills, harms or represses people in the name of whatever sky gawd. The thought in 2017 that otherwise intelligent people would swallow the bullshit created out of thin air by people who bathed in Camel Piss and did not have even the most basic understanding of the world they lived in boggles the mind.

It is amazing that no matter what family you are born into, your people worship the one, true gawd. How that works in a huge and diverse world for any faith claiming exclusivity is it does not work. More evil has been done in the name of gawd than any other attribute.

      1. Evil in the “name of gawd” is not the same as true belief in God. There is ALWAYS an excuse made to justify evil, just as you justify your view with such a small incident number of abortion clinic attacks (where babies are, lest we forget, MURDERED!!!) verses the thousands of Radical Islam terror attacks that also take innocent lives.

It’s interesting that as an agnostic, you don’t admit to the millions slaughtered in the name of NO religion by the USSR, Maoist China and Nazi Germany. Please, feel free to link any of these to Christianity or any true belief in a supreme deity. Did you add these ‘small numbers’ to your knee-jerk comment about religion causing more death than anything? Did you add up the deaths in the 20th century ALONE compared to all the “religious” wars combined?

And have you ever stopped to consider all the small daily good most religions do (even Islam) compared to the number of deaths they cause?

I know you gave the standard Leftist “I’m above all of this” mantra concerning religion, but it was religion that paved the way for great societies, not the lack of it.

It was religion that gave people faith in a better life to get through the hell that our ancestors endured. That may mean nothing to you, but to me it tends to lean towards a scientific theory I have (and never hear others discuss) which is the simple fact that religion is a part of our evolution. Think about that.

        1. Stalin was an Atheist and had been a Seminary Student earlier in life, but Hitler and Mussolini were not. None of these monsters killed advancing one faith over another despite singling out certain groups like Jews and Jehovah’s Witnesses. They also singled out Homosexuals, Union Leaders, Socialists, Communists, the mentally disabled and such. I have been to Dachau – toured it with an Orthodox Jew, in fact (Hi, Howard)- and have also known Survivors of the Final Solution.

As to abortion, I am not comfortable with the practice except in the most dire circumstances. However, I find it strange that Republicans who identify as Libertarians want to tell a Woman and her Doctor what she can do with her body. It would seem to me that a Christian would leave the decision to a Woman and Her Doctor and let God judge them in his good time.

Religious Wars throughout history large and small have claimed far more than those you mention here. Europe ran red with Blood for a very long time between Catholics and everyone else. Muslims repeatedly invaded Europe- there are Mosques in Spain, Portugal and in the Balkans from that time.

The Japanese worshipped the Emperor as a God among other peoples- right up until the end of the Second World War it was fairly common. Some of the First People of the New World were killed for their refusal to accept Catholic Christianity. The Crusades were Religious Wars, the march of Islam to the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans commonly happened at the tip of a Sword. The list is long.

        2. “slaughtered in the name of NO religion”

They were not slaughtered IN THE NAME OF “no religion”, any more than they were slaughtered in the name of the no belief in the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus.

        3. “There is ALWAYS an excuse made to justify evil, just as you justify your view with such a small incident number of abortion clinic attacks (where babies are, lest we forget, MURDERED!!!) verses the thousands of Radical Islam terror attacks that also take innocent lives.”

You radically weaken your argument on two fronts.
          1) Murder is a legal term. The SCOTUS has defined the termination of a pregnancy before the end of week 24 of a pregnancy as NOT murder. It is a termination of a life form that is considered, legally, non viable. It is not murder.

You, personally, may believe and your religion may tell you, that killing any fetus or other entity from the moment of conception on is “murder”. It just is not so.

The debate can go on and on and on and on virtually ad infinitum about where “it” becomes a “human” or a “person”, but the law is clear.

          2) You need to stop hyper inflating your numbers, e.g., “thousands of Radical Islam terror attacks”, if you want anyone with the capability of rational thought to listen to (or read) your arguments. In the last few decades there have not been “thousands” (plural). Admittedly, it is several hundred if you count the smaller ones that get poorly reported, but it is absolutely not “thousands” (plural).

        4. Islam isn’t the religion of peace, but of submission. Perhaps all religions share an element of obeisance or even coercion, but “Islam” translates from the Arabic as “submission.” And the proponents of the Caliphate, which included Osama bin Laden, extend the idea of submission to non-believers, who must, as they lack the true faith, be killed. These maniacs talk about the Crusades as if they are still going on, and are downright jolly in posting videos of beheadings. There may well be a gentle side to Islam, but the killers are getting all the ink, have poisoned the well of reason, and are winning in their quest for anarchy. Damn them to Hell.

      2. Agree 100%.

Given enough time though, any foundational text eventually becomes corrupted by its later adherents, its words twisted and ignored when convenient to suit an agenda.

Even the US constitution and its amendments aren’t immune, with the First terribly perverted to give corporations personhood and therefore campaign donations by PACs are “free speech”, and the Second too of course.

      3. Which is what really pisses God/Allah/Jehovah off.

        God Angrily Clarifies No-Kill Rule:
        http://www.theonion.com/article/god-angrily-clarifies-dont-kill-rule-222

I read somewhere where some Muslim Congress is supposed to address 3-Key issues that creates these factions and would nullify their terrorist reasoning including the need to create a caliphate, the fact the West isn’t against Muslims (only radical Muslim terrorist behavior), etc. – items addressed so there would be no reason that could be justified for jihad. It would be a universal mandate meant for all Muslims and adhered to as an essential tenet to their religion.

I agree though I never met a religion yet that lived by it’s own rules. (Well, maybe Mormons.) The problem with religion is like the problem with politics – anything humans have a hand in falls to sh*t for one agenda justified reason or another.

        1. Fesarlus, as you imply, but don’t directly say, the problem rarely lies with the underlying belief or belief structure that supports some “higher power”.

The problem is RELIGION. Once a religion is formed by a group of individuals it becomes about power by those individuals over the rest. Some are more benign than others (Confucianism, Buddhism, etc.) some are more dangerous (extremist versions of Christianity, Islam, etc.). But the bad acts are always someone acting in the name of their RELIGION (and by proxy, their deity or group of deities).

I have no problem with beliefs of higher powers. We’d be extremely arrogant to believe we are *THE* highest form of life in the entire universe. I have a problem with religions that use that belief to control and bludgeon others.

      4. DG, I rarely express sentiments so plainly as you have because it’s not popular and way too many take offense. But, yes. It boggles the mind that so many continue to cling to pseudo-historical fantasy fiction to explain the universe, when the real universe is so much more amazing, wild, bizarre and wonderful. You want to understand who you are and your place in the universe, become a real “honest-to-god” scientist and study it. (Yea, pun intended.)

This is not to say that religions do not spread good words as well, e.g. “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” But surrounding good words with all the hocus pocus is an unnecessary and unworthy embellishment that in some ways distracts from the message.

        1. Science has cornered the market on wonder, but people hidebound by their inherited beliefs can’t experience that, and refuse to acknowledge it. As far as moral teachings, professed believers in the supernatural are abject hypocrites in the extreme, readily accepting the fruits of scientific research whilst denying scientific precepts; and paying lip service to the Golden Rule even as they criminally violate it.

        2. you’re a liar…if I type “ghandi” Apple shows that it is misspelled, if I type “gandhi” no red underline appears. Man, you suck.

  1. Oh, great angels of Apple, Cook and Ive. Thanks for supporting correctness. Maybe on other hand comes terror but then you give us devices to… stop a nut. How great you are, strong and marvelous Apple.

  2. Children among at least 28 Coptic Christians massacred and dozens more injured by Islamic terrorists with machine guns in Egypt.

The Coptic Orthodox Church is the largest Christian denomination in Egypt, making up around 10 percent of the country’s residents, but has suffered successive rounds of persecution by Islamists.

    The dead are martyrs.

The Independent, Friday 26 May 2017

What will it take for the western world to finally wake up?

        1. He could grant them expedited entry.

America owes the Christians of the Levant since Dubya’s two wars of choice have destroyed their world.
There are Iraqi Christians sitting in camps in Jordan who have suffered because of our Foreign Policy.

I am an agnostic, but would have no problem with the President letting members of repressed minority groups in Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Libya, Yemen, Pakistan and Egypt into our country as we once did with the Vietnamese Boat People. They are not safe where they are and we had a big hand in that fact.

One does not have to be a Christian to show compassion to people suffering because of who they are and how they worship.

          America has plenty of room.

        2. Try to keep up, okay?

Under Obama, according to the State Department’s Refugee Processing Center, of the 15,479 Syrian refugees granted asylum in the U.S. in 2016, only 125 were Christian: 32 Catholics, 32 Orthodox, five Protestants, four Jehovah’s Witnesses and 52 who identified as Christians.

Do you know if you were a Christian in Syria it was impossible—at least very, very tough to get into the United States? If you were a Muslim, you could come in, but if you were a Christian, it was almost impossible and the reason that was so unfair — everybody was persecuted in all fairness — but they were chopping off the heads of everybody but more so the Christians. – President Trump, January 2017

President Trump’s executive order to grant Christians “expedited entry” were blocked by leftist judges in the few remaining blue states in the union. The case is currently proceeding to the U.S. Supreme Court.

        3. I do not need to keep up.

My point is the United States has contributed mightily to the anguish and distress of Christians living in the Muslim dominated world and created massive numbers of refugees as a result.
I further said we as a nation should extend refugee status to these people as we as a nation put their lives at grave risk. That is not partisan- that is humanitarian and realistic.

You really should ask yourself why anything beyond good morning is taken as an excuse to try to divide the American people with Republican talking points. Go to Arlington or any other cemetery- there are no (D)s or (R)s next to the names. Plenty of both have sacrificed for our nation over many wars and many years.

  3. Can we ascribe to the response of one of pop-culture’s great spokespersons & philosophers?
“the greatest thing we can do is just unite and love on each other…” “No barriers, no borders, we all just need to co-exist.”
    -Kate Perry

    1. We could co-exist and have co-existed for many years, except for the radical Islamist terrorists who keep fucking killing everyone, including little girls at bubblegum pop concerts, with bombs, knives, guns, trucks, and whatever else they can get their filthy loser evil hands on.

All the while, the elitist, statist politicians are lecturing the rest of us about “tolerance” and the fucking so-called joys of “diversity” and the need for “no walls,” while they’re safely ensconced within their gated communities and surrounded by security details when the deign to appear in public, like the fucking hypocrites they are. This includes Tim Fucking Cook.

The U.S. and most of the rest of the west is Judeo-Christian. Islamic Sharia law is obviously incompatible. Therefore, integration with these loser barbarians is impossible. At this point, I’m perfectly willing to have them kept in their desert shithole countries and let them kill each other.

  4. Actually, the victims that died by receiving the full force of the blast saved her. The further away one is from the bomber and the more victims between you and the bomber are what will most likely save you.

    1. That’s certainly a factor.

It is ALSO certainly a factor that her iPhone took the brunt of the force from the steel nut and kept it from going through the side of her head. Remember the nut had enough blunt force to sever a finger, or require its amputation afterward.

To dismiss the iPhone’s contribution in this case is specious.

        1. Then those iPhones didn’t help save them. Obviously.

Also obviously, the iPhone didn’t help merely be being an iPhone. It could’ve been an Android or other hard object held against her head. But bottom line, in this specific case the iPhone was 100% a contributing factor in her surviving the blast, *in addition to* her being further away from the bomb.

        2. So a Samsung phone could have saved her just as well; including distance from the blast, numbers and positions of victims between her and the blast, type and quantity of explosive, number and type of projectiles, whether phone was in right or left hand. Can you think of any other factors?

        3. Just admit that you’re being a sanctimonious pedant now, otherwise you go and tell the husband that his wife’s iPhone wasn’t a huge factor in saving her life.

        1. *eyeroll* No one with even a single-digit IQ can take the article, or the headline, or even my first reply to you, as implying she survived because she was using an iPhone instead of something else like a Samsung. I already spelled it out in my *second* reply to you, and now you’re just grasping at straws. It’s pathetic, really.

  5. Ban all nuts!

(Of course, this would mean the end of California.)

Ban all screws and pressure cookers and trucks, too!

Just using the “logic” of the gun-grabbers, by blaming the tools, not the tool misusers.
