World’s first look at Apple’s final iPhone 8 design in real life reveals homage to original iPhone

“According to multiple independent reports, the iPhone 8 will feature a bold new design that sandwiches a stainless steel frame between two 2.5D glass panels,” Zach Epstein reports for BGR. “The result will supposedly appear seamless, bringing Apple closer than ever to realizing Jony Ive’s dream of an iPhone made of one continuous sheet of glass.”

Epstein reports, “Apple’s iPhone 8 design has seemingly been finalized, and we’re giving the world an exclusive first look at the hotly anticipated tenth-anniversary iPhone.”

“BGR has exclusively obtained photos of an iPhone 8 mockup that is believed to feature Apple’s final design,” Epstein reports. “As has been the case in years past, this mockup is thought to have been built using actual finalized schematics that were leaked from the factories that will build Apple’s next-generation iPhones.”

MacDailyNews Take: If true, this is obviously quite the homage to the device that started the mobile revolution, the original Apple iPhone:

  1. How is a new iPhone that mimics the cues of the original iPhone a “bold new design?” Don’t get me wrong. I’ve got nothing against the look of this mock-up, just the description of it as being “boldly new.” Physically, it looks pretty common.

        1. While watching TV at night, my wife often passes me her iPad mini to show me something. Because of the smooth, rounded edges, I drop it nearly every time. It’s not very easy to hold and has a tendency to slip. Fortunately, it’s on the sofa so there’s no damage. But it IS a design flaw, no matter what Jonny I’ve wants. We have iPhone 7 phones now. Without a case, the same ting happens. However, our first iPones were the 4, and it grips well (hint to Jonny Ive).

    1. These aren’t the finalized materials – its a mockup made using the (reportedly real) schematics.

  2. Don’t get the camera bump… it smacks of not being able to fit the tech into the overall size.

Still, I’ll definitely be getting one when they’re released. My iPhone 6 is almost 3 years old and will fetch about £280 on eBay.

    Can’t wait!

  3. Apple STUPIDLY keeps reintroducing the same round edges on both the iPhone and the iPad that cause them to constantly slip out of hands. The straight edges (such as the iPhone 4 had) not only looks better, but it feels better and more secure in peoples’ hands. I’ve seen several before posts regarding this design “problem” here before.
