Next-gen Apple Watch to include game-changing health features, interchangeable smart bands

“There’s no doubt about it — the Apple Watch is a hit,” Jonathan S. Geller writes for BGR. “While Apple has not disclosed sales numbers, smart money has the device, now in its second generation, at over 25 million units sold. That not only means the watch is a scorcher that is now beating the initial trajectory of the iPhone, but recent estimates also crown it the world’s top-selling fitness device, outpacing dedicated fitness trackers from the likes of Fitbit in regards to market share. The Apple Watch has generated more revenue since its debut than the entire Swiss watch industry during that period of time, which is an incredible achievement.”

“The fitness aspect of the watch has always been a huge focus, and we have been told by a source familiar with Apple’s plans that the company is looking to introduce a game-changing feature in an upcoming new version of the Apple Watch,” Geller writes. “According to our source, Apple’s sights are now set on the epidemic of diabetes, and the company plans to introduce a game-changing glucose monitoring feature in an upcoming Apple Watch.”

“Apple also plans to introduce interchangeable ‘smart watch bands’ that add various functionality to the Apple Watch without added complexity, and without increasing the price of the watch itself. This could also mean that the glucose monitoring feature will be implemented as part of a smart band, rather than being built into the watch hardware,” Geller writes. “A camera band that adds a camera to the watch is another possibility, or a band that contains a battery to extend battery life for wearers who want even more longevity, even though the Apple Watch’s battery performance is already class-leading.”

MacDailyNews Take: Apple Watch Smartbands™.

Whoever comes up with an accurate Apple Watch smartband that acts as a non-invasive blood glucose monitor (reverse iontophoresis) is going to make a mint.MacDailyNews, August 24, 2015

• Oh yes, let there be add-on GPS, battery extenders, and more! The thought of wearing our Apple Watch Sports but also having to lug around our iPhones on runs just for the GPS is unpalatable.MacDailyNews, March 5, 2015

We can’t wait to see where the future leads for Apple Watch especially in the areas of speed (apps need to respond faster) and independence (less reliance on iPhone, perhaps via Apple “smartbands” that deliver things like GPS tracking for runners, extended battery life, etc.) — MacDailyNews, December 17, 2015

We would love to see Apple launch Apple Smartbands that add sensor and other functionality to Apple Watch. An Apple GPS Smartband and an Apple Battery Smartband, right now, would sell like wildfire. It’s a missed opportunity for the original Apple Watch’s first Christmas, but we hope to see such items in 2016. — MacDailyNews, December 11, 2015

If Apple were to release a range of “Apple Smartbands” for the existing Apple Watch, starting with the “Apple Smartband GPS,” they would sell millions more Apple Watch units with this move alone. — MacDailyNews, February 19, 2016

  1. The bands is the only chance to see more sensors, but even then the accuracy of measurements will be an issue. Apple will not release snake oil products as some magical multi-sensors that Kickstarter and other fraudulent projects promised, but never delivered.

  2. I have diabetes and a credit card. Apple has identified a potential gold mine. Add PulseOx and that addresses another issue that can move AppleWatches.

I can get excited about the next version.

  3. The holy grail must be Blood Pressure monitoring.
So many suffer from high BP that an intelligent methodology for measuring BP would send sales to another level.

  4. so i wrote to DR Abumere telling him about my mothers fibromyalgia disease he told me not to worry that my mom is gonna be okay with his herbal remedies!! actually i never believed it,, well after all the procedures and remedy given to me by this man i went to discuss it with my mom and explain everything to her on what she is about to take in,because Dr Abumere told me my mother must stop other medication just to make sure his own work properly, she agreed because this great doctor gave me assurance about his good work.
Weeks later after my mother start using this herbal medicine she started experiencing changes all over her as the DR assured me that she will cured, after some time i went to her doctor to confirmed if she has finally healed behold it was TRUE, So dear viewers my advise is if you have such sickness or any other at all you can email DR Abumere on: abumereherbalcentre @ gmail. com or visit his websit: www . abumereherbalcentre . simplesite . com
thank you doctor i will forever be grateful.

  5. Great idea, but as a young, non-diabetic, it doesn’t matter much for me. I’d like to see more capabilities in the Watch, too much “Check on iPhone” messages when using Siri. Hell I’d even like some kind of onscreen keyboard and Safari. A flatter watch with a bigger, curved screen would be sweet too.

  6.
