  1. Too bad the lunch with TC is so expensive. Would like to sit down with him, I’ll bring a Cylinder MP costing $thousands which hasn’t been updated since 2013 and some new cheap PC with a 1080 GPU that’s 4 times faster , i’ll talk about his many speeches about ‘ethics’, most recently with Jim Crammer.

Then I’ll ask him if it’s ethical to abandon Mac Pro users who bought into the Mac ecosystem due to Apple’s Marketing Spiel (I remind him about all Apple’s ads targeted at Pros, Apple’s demonstrations of photoshop shootouts with Windows machines, buying Aperture, FCP etc — all attempts to entice pros). Now Pros, their staff, their families who have spent many thousands into the Apple ecosystem ivelihoods are jeopardized because of Apple’s betrayal of not updating their machines. . I’ll ask him “Is THIS ETHICAL ? ” Does Apple ethics only apply to OUTSIDERS while CUSTOMERS are given the shaft? Does Tim Cook’s ethics disappear when the Almighty Dollar is as at stake?

(It’s good that recently SVPs announced they might be doing a new MP but not this year. 2018 at earliest, count the years from 2013…. ).

      1. I’m sure Tim has heard it a million times.

I also recall Steve Jobs saying this

“People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t done as the things I have done. Innovation is saying no to 1,000 things.”

        1. But what’s innovation without a focused direction and knowing your intended market well? You can innovate yourself into a corner as Apple did or completely misunderstand where your efforts at innovation should go. And as we’ve also heard before – Steve Jobs Cube.

        2. well INSTEAD of REJECTING the Trashcan as one of the hundreds of ideas they should “say NO to ” they went “Captain Titanic” on it ….

it’s obvious that they focused on the WRONG thing in the Cylinder, otherwise why did the SVP’s apologize and do the mea Culpa and do an extraordinary announcement of a future product without even a prototype ( I can’t remember them ever doing anything like that) .

Also what I’m complaining about in the post is the tardiness of their addressing the issue and the ethical implications of it.

“You have to pick carefully …”
EXACTLY. they picked the WRONG bloody thing and they don’t seem to be ‘proud at all ” now , that’s why the long winded excuses meeting….

TERNUS (VP for Mac) : “The way the system is architected, it just doesn’t lend itself to significant reconfiguration for somebody who might want a different combination of GPUs… That’s when we realized we had to take a step back and completely re-architect what we’re doing and build something that enables us to do these quick, regular updates and keep it current and keep it state of the art, and also allow a little more in terms of adaptability to the different needs of the different pro just”

(My emphasis ” COMPLETELY RF-ARCHITECT WHAT WE ARE DOING… “. Does that sound that they picked the right thing to anybody ? )

FEDERIGHI ” I think we designed ourselves into a bit of a thermal corner, if you will. We designed a system that we thought with the kind of GPUs that at the time we thought we needed, and that we thought we could well serve with a two GPU architecture… that that was the thermal limit we needed, or the thermal capacity we needed. But workloads didn’t materialize to fit that as broadly as we hoped… Being able to put larger single GPUs required a different system architecture and more thermal capacity than that system was designed to accommodate. And so it became fairly difficult to adjust.”

Wrong thermal envelope , Wrong GPU design, not adaptable , does not fit uses of our many of our Mac Pro customers, we have to re-architect…
(sure they try to spin it but it sound really like a massive mistake).

“I’m sure Tim has heard it a million time”
so maybe Tim and Ive need to hear it MORE because it sure seems they didn’t get it first million times around.

Like I said I’m still pissed with their tardiness to address the issue and their real lame speed to build a new machine.
(Note Also the people most responsible for the mess: Tim Cook and Jony Ive didn’t bother to attend. And don’t tell me Cook is ‘ too busy to deal with CUSTOMERS ‘ because in the few weeks since the MP meeting he’s been all over making speeches NOT related Apple (at his college, getting a ‘social’ award ) etc.
Like I said Tim cook says he’s SO CONCERNED about social issues outside but he gives a big FU-K YOU to his pro customers… (I respect Tim Cook as a caretaker manager but ethically I think he’s a hypocrite (see my first post) )

(Below I’m going to paste a post about Steve Jobs speed. )

        3. My post the other day about Steve Jobs speed in creating PRODUCTS:

          —–
Just to contrast the speed of Jobs below is the Mac list I’ve shown before. Note in Jobs second tenure, the first few years Apple was financially constrained and had much fewer resources than today with rivals that were much bigger and dangerous.

AFTER he made the statement that ‘PC wars was over and Apple lost’ … Jobs then went (180 on the Mac) and did all these Mac models in about 10 years, for example all the way from bulky ORANGE plastic Clamshell iBooks to sleek Aluminium Macbook Airs.

Just the KEY Macs (there are many more Jobs macs)

          IMac :
          bondi blue,
          multicoloured,
          Graphite IMac
          Lampshade flat Panel
          G5 Flat Panel
          Intel Aluminium

          Macbook:
          iBook Colored Clamshell
          Powerbook g4 Plastic
          iBook White
          Powerbook G4 Aluminium
          Macbook Intel White
          Black Macbook
          Macbook Intel Aluminium
          Macbook Pro
          Macbook Air
          Macbook Aluminium Unibody

          Desktops:
          G4 Cube
          Mini G4
          Mini Intel
          Unibody Mini

          Tower:
          G4 Graphite Plastic
          G4 Silver Plastic
          Power Mac G5 Aluminium
          Mac Pro Intel

          ——
Again these are just the key category machines, i didn’t even specifically note some memorable macs like the monster 17 inch Macbook Pro (which is part of the Macbook Pro section).

          —–

In his free time Jobs also did the crazy hard TRANSITION of PowerPC to Intel and OS9 to OSX (different processor base and different OS base as OSX was created from Job’s UNIX Nextstep )
He also Masterminded the CREATION of iPod and iTunes (thus changing the music industry), Apple Stores (most profitable per square foot retail), AND iOS !!! the iPhone, the iPad, the AppStore….. !!!
(note all the hardware products had numerous models as well like the iPod from HD model to tiny Shuffle).

(Note Also at that time People said that Apple should Abandon Mac as iPod was making so much money…. where is iPod now? )

AND Jobs made kick ass Marketing and Sales campaigns (1984, Think Different, Dancing iPod figures, Mac/PC guy etc) Under his tight supervision he ran besides iPhone, iPad, iPod ads … one NEW Mac Ad a month ! (66 different Mac PC guy ads in 4 years which petered out when Cook took over as Interim CEO … )!

          etc.

Probably 95% of Apple profits TODAY are from products masterminded by Jobs.

I think that sort of takes the air out of people saying Apple can’t go faster or is firing on all cylinders today or that they can’t handle products like Mac Pros well and speedily …

        4. “I think that sort of takes the air out of people saying Apple can’t go faster or is firing on all cylinders today or that they can’t handle products like Mac Pros well and speedily …”

If we were dealing with reasonable people, yes, this list of SJ accomplishments in 10 years ends ALL EXCUSES, period. That said, today we are dealing with the reality of apologist snowflakes off to save the world.

Excuse artists don’t consider several facts in Apple’s favor as apposed to back then. Today Apple has more money, more employees, more state of the art workspaces, more advanced technologies in addition to much more resources. Given the realities, one would think Cook’s Apple could easily DOUBLE SJ’s output — imagine that. 🚀🌛

But at the bare minimum, those of us like yourself DW are painfully aware Apple cannot remotely even maintain the same pace. Absolutely no excuse for this and why some believe at best for Cook reassignment of duties to make use of his pet liberal causes and fashion fetish or replacement which I have been advocating. Hire a tech driving tour de force that can get the job done …

        5. to clarify I’m not naturally against some of the social issues TC wants to deal with : like social justice … what I’m saying is that he should be just as concerned for his Customers as some of these outside issues and that there shouldn’t be a double standard (all lovey dovey for outsiders and ruthless ‘buck counts’ for customers . And I don’t think the MP even loses money especially if they built an expandable tower, just less than things like iPhone)

  2. Well all you ‘couch potato’ ceo’s can just bid some of your millions and ruin a good lunch with some verbose whingeing…all in the name of charity.

    1. sometimes ‘couch potato’ CEOs can see things clearer than the fat-cat earning millions working CEOs and senior staff…
I give you Msft. Ballmer and the BlackBerry CEOs for example…

lots of ‘normal people’ and ‘normal investors’ could see the problems but apparently they couldn’t. In spite of numerous articles, thousands of posts from users pointing out the importance of the smart phone and its direction , Ballmer laughed and the BB twin CEOs dismissed the iPhone and went out to partying and hunted for Hockey teams to buy….

Ballmer gone Winphone fading like snowflakes in Hell , BB stock down something like 90%…

Power can Blind like a Blazing Light.

(Ballmer had to ban iPhones from Microsoft , so apparently some low level staffers were smarter than their bosses… )

      1. Microsoft makes software for Macs, so there are Microsoft employees wandering around with MacBook Pros, which they need to do their jobs. That can be disconcerting to employees and it sends a mixed message to visitors. The presence of iPhones takes it over the top, so Ballmer’s action was probably packaged in bluster but necessary for corporate image..

  3. Apparently I can’t do it, but I wanted to bid $1.00 in honor of Steve Jobs, since that was the amount of his annual salary.

It would just be a symbolic bid.

      1. The pusillanimous French are raising their glasses with Chateau de Jihad 2017 this evening…an insult to the freedom that has emanated from their shores in the past. They have just signed the death warrant of their own children and grandchildren.

    1. Au contraire mon petit chou, mon grand perdant, mon échec perpetuel, mon ‘Iznogoud’….the French Republic voted en masse to comprehensively reject racism and hate used as a weapon to quash freedom for all citizens no matter their origin. In fact, Le Pen came only third – behind abstainers which is a voting option. A shocking…well not really, rejection of political stupidity.
