“In an interview with CNBC, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the tech giant is launching a $1 billion fund to invest in advanced manufacturing companies in the United States, announcing its first investment later this month,” Lapowsky writes. “According to the National Association of Manufacturers, for every $1 invested in manufacturing, $1.81 is injected back into the economy. ‘When you talk about why this matters, not only is it the billion investment, but the multiplier effect around it,’ says Brian Raymond, director of innovation policy at NAM.”
“This $1 billion fund transcends mere marketing. It’s good policy,” Lapowsky writes. “There’s one hitch. Even as Apple commits $1 billion to invest in the companies that are creating these jobs, manufacturers may have a tough time finding the high-skilled workers they need to fill them… That means that even as President Trump pressures Apple and others, Apple’s investment might just pressure President Trump into supporting workforce development programs that help build these skills.”

When they are clearly in error even after your efforts to understand them, do your best to gently correct them. If they decide to ignore the truth after all that, it is on their heads. I think he can get far better results with what you are smoking if you think that TrumpCare is going to cost less for most Americans. Young, healthy, males will indeed pay a lot less… if they chose to buy insurance at all. The rest of us are going to have premiums, deductibles, and copays that go through the ceiling.
With no more requirement for individuals or employers to have health insurance, only people who are worried about their health are likely to buy it. Sicker individuals cost more, so the companies will have no choice but raise their basic rates to recapture their losses. The only alternative would be to go out of business because they can no longer cover their losses with premium income from their healthy former customers.
On top of that increase in basic rates, companies under ObamaCare can only charge a 60-year-old three times the rate they charge a 20-year-old. With TrumpCare, that goes up to five times, with the possibility of a state waiver that permits even higher multipliers. Is anyone under any doubt that the insurance companies will charge as much as the law allows?
The same goes for preexisting conditions. Rates for healthy people will go down, but they aren’t the ones who need insurance. Less healthy individuals will go into high risk pools. The history is that states with those pools have never had rates that average individuals can afford; the government subsidies are never enough to cover the surcharge on premiums. Bear in mind also that people with chronic health conditions are likely to have lower incomes and thus less disposable income they can spend on insurance than healthy folks.
About the only thing I can imagine that would make it tolerable is to smoke whatever you are.

Just answer one question without going into a personal attack, if you can:
If insurance companies are currently charging older Americans three times as much as younger folks, because that is all that ObamaCare allows, and TrumpCare allows them to charge five times as much (which it does), what would lead you to believe that a senior’s premiums will not go up by 67% due to that factor alone?
Example: Coverage that costs a 20-year-old $2000/year and currently costs a senior $6000 will go up to $10,000, even IF there are no issues with inflation, price gouging, preexisting conditions, reduced coverage, higher copays, or any of the other price hikes that might have happened anyway, and that TrumpCare will (at best) not improve.
Note: Under ObamaCare, individuals receive various tax offsets and subsidies for healthcare expenses that TrumpCare replaces with a single tax credit—$2000 for individuals under 20, ranging up to $4000 for individuals over 60. In the example above, the net cost of insurance for the 20-year-old will be $0, while the net cost to the senior will be $6000 (the same as he is paying now, but without any of the current tax benefits or subsidies).
If I am the idiot you claim me to be, please point out where I have failed to see how this “benefits everyone at LOWER costs” (emphasis yours).
The American Health Care Act (HR 1628) passed by the House today reduces taxes on the American people by over $1 trillion. The bill abolishes the following taxes imposed by Obama and the Democrat party in 2010 as part of Obamacare:
-Abolishes the Obamacare Individual Mandate Tax which hits 8 million Americans each year.
-Abolishes the Obamacare Employer Mandate Tax. Together with repeal of the Individual Mandate Tax repeal this is a $270 billion tax cut.
-Abolishes Obamacare’s Medicine Cabinet Tax which hits 20 million Americans with Health Savings Accounts and 30 million Americans with Flexible Spending Accounts. This is a $6 billion tax cut.
-Abolishes Obamacare’s Flexible Spending Account tax on 30 million Americans. This is a $20 billion tax cut.
-Abolishes Obamacare’s Chronic Care Tax on 10 million Americans with high out of pocket medical expenses. This is a $126 billion tax cut.
-Abolishes Obamacare’s HSA withdrawal tax. This is a $100 million tax cut.
-Abolishes Obamacare’s 10% excise tax on small businesses with indoor tanning services. This is a $600 million tax cut.
-Abolishes the Obamacare health insurance tax. This is a $145 billion tax cut.
-Abolishes the Obamacare 3.8% surtax on investment income. This is a $172 billion tax cut.
-Abolishes the Obamacare medical device tax. This is a $20 billion tax cut.
-Abolishes the Obamacare tax on prescription medicine. This is a $28 billion tax cut.
-Abolishes the Obamacare tax on retiree prescription drug coverage. This is a $2 billion tax cut.
As a presidential candidate in 2008, Barack Obama had promised repeatedly that he would not raise any tax on any American earning less than $250,000 per year. He broke the promise when he signed Obamacare. With the passage of the House GOP bill, tens of millions of middle income Americans will get tax relief from Obamacare’s long list of tax hikes.

Not quite. Trumpcare is a deficit spending bill with no redeeming financial value. It’s designed to score political points, not to improve healthcare costs.
Ryan inserted pork and tax breaks into the same old a flawed repeal act that eliminates the requirements for insurance companies to cover people in need, eliminates the funding mechanism required to replace the legacy system where insurance avoidance led to massive charity care at emergency rooms. Not a solution to anything. Hospitals still have regional monopolies, pharma continues to enjoy its profiteering, insurance companies don’t have any requirements to provide basic coverage packages at any price, nor do the have to compete in markets they claim are not profitable enough.

Apple already showed its attempt at advanced manufacturing in the USA with the Mac Pro production facility. Aside from the fact they screwed the pooch with a bad hardware design and therefore production rates are only a fraction of plant capacity, how many people are employed at that facility?
The company that actually assembles the Mac Pro, Flextronics, has between 500 and 800 Austin employees. There are some estimates as high as 1300, but that is probably a goal assuming greater production. Apple itself has about 4000 Austin employees.
No offense to these Mac Pro workers, but I have a hard time seeing them being overly busy right now making 4 year old macs.
Just think of the high multiplier effect the reptriation of corpoate earnings currently stashed overseas should they be all repatriated directly into domestic US infrastructure!
Main St. where true jobs are made would rejoice but so would Wall St. who somehow manges to always assert itself into any Socialist jobs program if there’s free money to be made without even lifting a worker’s tool, but by manipulating currency and by profiteering that does not benefit the commons.
Ok, Apple has a heck of a lot of money overseas, but if it is taxed at 10-15% with a credit for taxes paid in the jurisdiction where it was earned, not very much of it (proportionately) is actually going into the U.S. Treasury to be spent on infrastructure. Apple will use its share of the repatriated money mostly for stock buybacks, because that is the most direct benefit to the shareholders.
As mentioned elsewhere, it is actually cheaper to borrow money for factory purchases than to use cash that could make more in investments. The company has shown an unwillingness to go in for the kind of diversification that has driven multiple American companies into the ground. Better to stick with its core competence.
