“Amazon customers will soon be able to watch live football games as part of the retailer’s growing online video service.,” Nick Wingfield reports for The New York Times.
“The National Football League has reached an agreement with Amazon to allow Amazon Prime customers to stream 10 “Thursday Night Football” games in the coming season, N.F.L. and Amazon representatives said,” Wingfield reports. “Prime customers spend $99 a year for a membership that includes free shipping and a video service with a library of movies and TV shows.”
“Amazon agreed to pay about $50 million for the streaming rights to the N.F.L. games, according to a person briefed on the deal who asked for anonymity because the price was confidential,” Wingfield reports. “The amount was about five times the roughly $10 million Twitter agreed to pay the N.F.L. last year for streaming rights to ‘Thursday Night Football,’ this person said.”

Seems to be last one in the building turn the lights out where Apple is concerned these days. What are all those people at Campus 2 actually going to do, apart from quitting to join a company that is actually doing something. Why didn’t they build a roller coaster instead.
NFL is horribly expensive, Thursday night games suck, Apple does well avoiding getting into that mess.
And I thought the ratings for TNF were so bad that the NFL was considering dropping it altogether… I guess they were just looking for more money?

NFL broadcasting is one big boondoggle. Apple was wise to stay away. That said, I wish Apple were doing something- ANYTHING MEANINGFUL- in this space.
