Fire erupts at Samsung store in Singapore

“A fire broke out in the stockroom of a Samsung store in Singapore [on Tuesday],” Kate Samuelson reports for Fortune.

“The small fire at the Samsung Experience Store in the AMK Hub shopping mall shut down the shop and affected a few other businesses nearby, according to Channel News Asia,” Samuelson reports. “Even though the fire was contained quickly, surrounding stores in the mall were forced to temporarily close for safety reasons.”

Samuelson reports, “Samsung did not immediately respond to Fortune’s request for comment, but released a statement to Channel News Asia. ‘We are currently assessing the property damage and working closely with the authorities to determine the cause of the fire. The store will remain temporarily closed during this period. We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused.'”

MacDailyNews Take: Gee, what the heck could have sparked a fire at a Samsung store?

It’s baffling.

  1. Are new SamSplode Galaxy 8’s already in store stock?

“Attention Shoppers: Please have your mobile fire extinguishers on hand when purchasing a new Galaxy 8. That is all.”

    1. Though they tend to copy a lot, they should be given some credit for also innovating quite a bit. Two examples would be the convex minuscus front glass design from the Galaxy S3 series that Apple seems to have taken a liking to recently. And Samsung Pay which goes beyond NFC by also having a magnetic chip allowing use of magnetic card readers on card readers excepting ATMs. Samsung Pay also has an incentive plan independent of the credit card issuers where use will give you points towards various awards. Hopefully Apple will follow suit with the incentive part soon in Apple Pay.

      1. Spark, Inferno, Flame, Flambé, Igniter, Smoked, Combust, Pocket Pyro, Kaboomer, Cheapskate’s Surprise, Torch, Scorch, Friedtronix, Overheater, Splodex, Burstex, Plosion, Blaze ‘O Glory, Detonator and the Suicider I believe are all still available.

    1. Oh, that’s sickening isn’t it? “The safety of our customers is our priority”, my eye.

It certainly wasn’t before all these fires — but their advertising agency says it is now, so that’s alright? Unbelievable.

Samdung were recklessly cutting corners and cutting costs and there’s the rub.

They’re so desperate to turn market share into revenue, they’ll do anything to get out of their problems.

Even corruption and bribery. Very sad. On the other hand, they did have some sharp business lessons coming to them (karma is still a b!@tch), and we get some schadenfreude glee out of their misfortunes.

With their boss in jail, how long can their phones division survive?
