“On March 21, Apple unveiled a refresh of its iPhone SE product line,” Ashraf Eassa writes for The Motley Fool. “Apple previously offered 16 GB and 64 GB variants of the iPhone SE at $399 and $449, respectively. Following the updates, Apple now offers 32 GB and 128 GB models; the former is priced at $399 while the latter comes in at $499. I believe that this is a sensible refresh.”
“With this move, Apple is killing two birds with one stone. First, by bumping up the storage capacity on the entry-level iPhone model, Apple is delivering more value to the consumer — an extra 16 GB of storage can dramatically improve the user experience, especially since a large chunk of the first 16 GB of storage is taken up by the operating system and other pre-installed applications,” Eassa writes. “At the same time, Apple can now boost the price that it can command for the higher storage tier option by doubling the available storage from 64 GB to 128 GB.”
Eassa writes, “The impact to iPhone unit shipments from this refresh isn’t likely to be huge, but I think that these new storage configurations improve the appeal of the iPhone SE line and should drive some reasonable degree of incremental iPhone sales.”

MacDailyNews Take: That 128GB model is going to look very appealing to those currently using older, storage-challenged iPhone 5/5s/5c units.

Apple introduces iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition; iPhone SE doubles storage for same price – March 21, 2017
If they could get the camera to match the 7plus camera I’d consider buying one of these babies. I miss having a phone where texting with one hand was possible (I have tiny hands like Trump).
Not even 7 has the camera of 7plus.
But yes, it would have been nice to have at least some of the internals upgraded to match 7 (A10 processor, main camera, RAM…).
It is still an excellent deal at $400; it is just a shame not to be able to have a normal-sized phone (rather than huge, or gigantic) with the fastest chipset and new(er) camera…
I agree that fitting one of the better cameras would be desirable, but for an SE, there’s not much need to have the fastest CPU available, the smaller screen needs less horsepower to move the pixels around, so the CPU appears to be pretty quick.
If making the obligatory car comparison, a smaller engine in a lightweight car can outperform a bigger engine in a heavier car.
So it’s still an iPhone 6S on the inside?
Yep. Got a problem with that?
Not in particular. I have a 6 and figured that if Apple updated the insides of the SE to iPhone 7 equivalent, I’d get it. Otherwise I’d wait until September and replace my 6’s battery.
Looks like I’m waiting!
I realize this is a question which was probably answered a while ago, but here goes:
Is the SE unlocked? I’m curious because it starts out at $400 instead of $200.
Yes, the SE is unlocked if you buy it at full price and not on a plan.
That doesn’t exactly answer my question. I’m trying to figure out why they priced it at $400 instead of pricing it at $200 like the other iPhones.
