“Being a cord cutter (actually, I’ve never had cable, so I haven’t technically cut any cords), I’m always on the hunt for new ways to keep myself entertained,” Lory Gil writes for iMore.
“On Apple TV, I use a handful of apps that, either I subscribe to a streaming service for (like Hulu and Netflix), or offer a free streaming TV feature that doesn’t require a cable subscription (like PBS and The CW),” Gil writes. “The thing about broadcast television is that I can’t watch it on Apple TV. I have to switch my TV input over, and then I can flip through the channels until I find something to watch. I rarely watch broadcast television because I tend to stick with Apple TV for my TV and movie watching activities.”
“That is until I got HDHomeRun. With HDHomeRun, not only can I watch live broadcast television on my Apple TV, I can also watch it on my iPhone or iPad,” Gil writes. “Plus, with the right app, I’m able to record live TV and watch it the way a person with cable and a DVR would watch TV. ”

*PlayStation Vue’s biggest problem is its name. It sounds like a gaming service, but it’s not.

Seriously, is it that difficult to switch one’s TV input and get those channels live and uncompressed? Even those channels I get through FIOS or Comcast will occasionally freeze or stumble. The same holds for Internet streamed channels.
Using the “Channels app” on the Apple TV and there is no
need to change inputs, you just go to the “Channels app”..works great, I only use one input (the one the Apple TV is on) because everything is on the Apple TV, Playstation VuE, Directv Now…
I’m not sure if I’d want to. TV (and movies, and video games, and music) all seem to have gone downhill since the year 2000. It looks like the Y2K bug ruined art and entertainment instead of computers.
The benefit of putting up an antenna is all those pre-2000 shows are still being broadcast. On my last channel scan I picked up 129 OTA channels here in Houston. I regularly watch classic movies and TV shows on the channels listed below. It’s likely many of them are available where you live as well.

you should investigate Tablo. I install it and not only do I watch recorded of live TV on by TV, Ipad, Iphone, or Ipod at home but I can also watch it outside my home wherever internet is available including cellular network.
It works very very well. Had it for 6 month now and not a glitch.

I also recommend Tablo. Plug in a USB HD and save your recordings for later, and skip the commercials.
Playstation Vue is great if you want local sports and live tv.
Multiple devices/tvs and cloud DVR are included. Got to say the interface with the apple remote is not as good as PS4. Also they lost Comedy Central, Spike recently which kind of sucks (they did gain NBA TV to make up)
I cut the cord last Fall, and now use an antenna for broadcast TV, and PSVue, $35 a month, for live TV. I save over $100 from what I used to pay TimeWarner cable. And, I get more sports than ever before. If you’re a soccer fan, you get EPL on NBCSN, and on demand, you get ChampionsLeague on ESPN and on demand, Bundesliga on FoxSports, and LaLiga, French and Italian leagues on beinSports.
I tried Sling but it only allowed 3 simultaneous streams and only 1 ESPN stream at a time. PSVue allows 5 streams at a time. In a large family, you need 5! DirectTV only allows 1 stream.
You need to budget about 5mbps per stream, so if you have 5 streams going at once,, you need a 25mbps internet service. On my Spectrum cable I get the basic 15mbps service for $35, when my family visits in July, I’ll up that to the 25mbps for $45.
