After using Apple’s AirPods for more than a month, AppleInsider revisits the company’s first wireless headphone device to report on battery life, design benefits and flaws, durability, performance and more.
AppleInsider also offers suggestions on areas that need improvement.
After a simple one-tap setup, Apple’s AirPods are automatically on and always connected. Using them is just as easy. They can sense when they’re in your ears and pause when you take them out thanks to Apple’s custom-designed Apple W1 chip in each AirPod.

MacDailyNews Take: Here’s hoping Apple W1 chip is incorporated far and wide, by every headphone/earphone maker, as the experience it offers really is magical!
I doubt that Apple will sell W1 to its competitors.
More likely they will come up with an alternative way to achieve the same double-stream Bluetooth reliability without violating Apple’s patents. Though it it will take some some for them to do as is synchronisation is a very complex problem to solve.
It’s in Apple’s interest to sell the W1 to all headphone manufacturers. W1 only improves experience with iPhone, so the more great headphones there are only enhances the halo effect around iPhone.
Sorry but no it does not
Airpods are:
* Overpriced by $100
* Fade in and out
* Will not consistently switch between devices
* Have problems with signal quality
* Drop calls and songs abruptly without warning
In other words, a typical Tim Cook product.
Sounds like you got a “lemon” pair. Return for new ones. I’ve had zero problems.
Overpriced by $100. BWAHAHAHA!!! Didn’t need to read further.
I don’t know what’s going on with the video link, but here’s another try. This is directly at AppleInsider’s YouTube channel:
*sigh* Here’s another way to get to the video, a simple link:
Apple AirPods long-term review
My usual comment additions:
– Foam earbud covers can help keep Apple’s Ear/Airpods in your ears if you have a different ear shape.
– Foam earbud covers also keep Apple’s Ear/Airpods clean. Mine never get dirty, just the foam covers. Meanwhile, I’ve read people complaining that their’s died because they got dirty. Entirely avoidable.
I get a bag of 100 foam covers for dirt cheap over at that usual giant store on the Internet.
They suck when used with a phone call. Music different story. I suspect that was the issue with the delay and they never fixed it. Sad. They are piece of shit
