Apple took 92% of smartphone industry’s profits in Q416

“Shares of Apple are up $1.64, or 1.3%, at $131.94, inching closer to that all-time high of $134.54, as Canaccord Genuity’s Mike Walkley this morning writing that the company looks to have garnered 92% of smartphone industry profits with the iPhone in Q4, and will probably take more share in the priciest phones this year,” Tiernan Ray reports for Barron’s.

“Apple took top share of smartphone unit sales in Q4, according to research firm Strategy Analytics,” Ray reports. “But the company also again took the lion’s share in profits, by Walkley’s own estimate.”

“Apple’s profit share was down from 106% in Q3, as Samsung’s profit rebounded despite its stumbles, but Apple’s share was up a point from the year-earlier quarter, Walkley estimates,” Ray reports. “Walkley, who has a Buy rating on Apple shares, raises his price target to $154 from $142…”

    1. Yup! That’s the Golden Fleece we were looking for several years ago only to founder on reefs of misinformation from Samsung and ignorant analysts.
Really was a down draft that I rode down with the faithful.
We kept the faith and stayed the course
      (albeit lashed to the helm).
So nice to made whole again and then some+.
Also wonderful to kick all the naysayers, who questioned out investment sanity, in the %$#@*&^^ $!
To go where no man has gone before………….

  1. Time for analysts and the press to acknowledge there has never ever been such a successful product launched by one company.

Then there has never been a company which KEPT their lead and their profits for a whole decade after inventing the modern product they created.

It is nothing less than astounding.

  2. But that’s ONLY 92% profits. Doesn’t Android have, like, 92% smartphone market share percentage? After all, it’s market share percentage that really matters to Wall Street. I’m constantly seeing articles happily announcing how Apple’s iPhone is losing out to every Chinese Android smartphone manufacturer. They say NO ONE wants to pay good money for an iPhone when an OPPO, Huawei, Vivo or Xiaomi smartphone can do just as much, if not more, for half the price. If Apple’s profits really mattered, do you think all those knuckleheads would be announcing every time some Chinese company shows explosive growth for one year and then fades the next.

I don’t even see why they really need to compare some smallish smartphone company to Apple. What exactly does it prove? Why not just tell the growth the Chinese company has and NOT involve Apple in the discussion.
