“Apple is investigating multiple reports from iPhone owners of AirPods randomly disconnecting and reconnecting during calls,” Tim Hardwick reports for MacRumors.
“A MacRumors forum thread and a long thread on Apple’s Support Communities website has been generated by AirPods users who are regularly experiencing Bluetooth connection dropouts during phone calls, despite the fact that the wireless earphones almost never lose their connection when used to listen to music or anything else,” Hardwick reports.
Hardwick reports, “At present, the issue appears to be limited to iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus devices, with several users reporting no such problems after upgrading to an iPhone 7.”

I am thoroughly convinced that Cook is so comprehensively incompetent that he can’t do anything right.
Honestly… he makes Steve Ballmer look like Steve Jobs. Cook is the biggest joke and the worst thing to ever happen to Apple.
Also, late to market and still not ready to ship. This is a joke. Had 3 extra months to work these bugs out.

I LOVE my Airpods. I especially love the way they integrate with my iPhone and my Apple Watch (great for checking battery life) – However they are a bit “buggy” – completely expect that in a 1.0 product but anyone who uses them for phone calls which I do for 2 – 3 hours everyday will notice some growing pains:
1) As the article states the Bluetooth will just drop sometimes.
2) When you have them paired to a phone then move to an iPad then try to move back to the phone and try to take a call, they will not go back to the phone 30 – 40% of the time. (I use an iPhone 7s+)
3) When you have them paired to an iPhone 7s+ and move to a new Macbook Pro (13″ touchbar model) they will almost never smoothly move back to the phone to take a phone call.
4) Airpods are painfully slow to pick up the phone if you have them in the case and try to rush and take them out, put them on, and pick up a call. Even if you hear the “tone” that they are on – they won’t pick up the call almost every time.
The Airpods sound great listening to music.
The Airpods charge CRAZY fast less than 30 min in the case get be back to 90%.
I get about 1.5 hours of talk time a phone call on a charge and more than 5 hours of just pure listening on a single charge.
Again all growing pains that I am sure will be helped by a firmware update. Also I have similar problems with all the other bluetooth headsets I have owned (LG, Bose, Plantronics).
Only headset and mic that works 100% of the time is using a cable.
So it fails 30-40% of the time? If you are on a call and Airpods drop with any regularity, that is a failure, period. Any other company offered that and MDN would be pasting hate screed against that company for the next year.
I totally agree with your last paragraph — the fundamental problem is that Apple thinks bluetooth is ready for prime time. It isn’t. The more Apple pushes its dreams of a cable-free future, the more it will fail to make products that JUST WORK.
Lots of Bluetooth earpieces work and have for years.
Apple’s product is the one that doesn’t work.

I’m using a 7 Plus and I’m having a specific problem. When I double tap for Siri, at times the phone goes to the Siri screen but I never get the time to speak. I loook at the phone and by then it’s not listening any more. I’ve double tapped again and spoken while it’s on the Siri screen but no input is received either through the AirPods or the phone mic. My problem is strictly limited to Siri.
That’s a Siri-ous problem.
