Apple releases iOS 10.2.1

“Apple today released iOS 10.2.1 to the public following several weeks of testing,” Juli Clover reports for MacRumors.

“iOS 10.2.1 also comes more than a month after the release of iOS 10.2,” Clover reports,” the second major update to the iOS 10 operating system.”

Clover reports, “According to Apple’s own release notes for iOS 10.2.1, the update brings unspecified bug fixes and security improvements.”

MacDailyNews Take: Good luck!

  1. Unspecified bug fixes and security improvements on all four software platforms at the same time…

I’d hazard a guess that a core zero day security flaw was identified and patched. It would make sense not to comment on it further.

    1. Or a result of the Agile Development practice which says you have different teams all working on different things under the same cadence. They likely planned these releases on these days quite awhile ago, got code complete with the last public beta drop, and since no major issues were found, released that code.

      1. You’re correct about Agile and your hypothesis may be correct as well. But if they were separate teams, which we don’t know, Agile would not necessarily require independent teams to release simultaneously.

        1. I don’t know which scaled-Agile methodology Apple uses (SAFe, LeSS, DaD, etc.; I guess I could ping some of my friends who work there), but aligning testing and releases between teams whose products are so tightly coupled makes perfect sense to me.

  2. Unspecified bug fixes?

Fixes an issue where emojis representing African American same sex couples were rendering too light a shade of brown on iOS devices running iOS 8.0 or older.

    No wonder it was unspecified.

    1. Apparently didn’t fix the issue where decent Apple consumers are subjected to racist comments from folks who are conflicted about their sexuality. Let’s make this site safe for substantive discussions of technology without the juvenile distractions.

      1. Dermal diversity is still not sufficiently represented. Do you see any emoji faces with zits? Didn’t think so.

Well, pimple faces are people, too. And don’t even get me started with melanoma.

  3. Am finding this “Update” sure sucks the battery life down a lot!

Anyone else notice this on their iPhones?

Come on Apple, fix things will you please? We’re tired of being your guinea pigs for shorty programming.
