Rumor: Apple Pencil 2 coming this spring with magnets to attach to iPad, plus pocket clip

“Alongside new iPad Pro models, Apple is also rumored to be working on a second-generation Apple Pencil, one that could potentially solve where to put the input device when it’s not being held in your hand,” Neil Hughes reports for AppleInsider.

“Citing a source on Chinese microblogging site Weibo, Letem svetem Applem reported on Wednesday that a so-called ‘Apple Pencil 2’ will arrive this spring, featuring a new magnetic system that will allow it to temporarily attach to an iPad,” Hughes reports. “This would allow users to place the Apple Pencil on the iPad securely when not in use, allowing it to attach magnetically just like the iPad Smart Cover.”

“In addition, Wednesday’s report suggested that the ‘Apple Pencil 2′” could also include a standard pen clip, allowing users to clip the Apple Pencil to their pocket for easy access,” Hughes reports. “Clips commonly found on pens also prevent them from rolling away on a desk.”

  1. And the rumor is Apple plans to make these available for customer purchase 12 months after the official availability date. But there will be no leather pencil, because . . . well Apple does not like leather anymore. Watch bands, pencils. Well, some Apple employees like leather in the privacy of their own homes. But only if its organic.

  2. ::sigh:: ::facepalm::

    Major updates, indeed.

I mean… I mean… how can you sit here quietly and watch your friends make such bad decisions?

It’s like when I couldn’t stop watching Heroes.

    1. Let me take a wild guess…
That will be implemented in version 3 …2 years from now…
So by the time one ends up with the reasonably feature-full stylus one would have spent north of 300$….

Its not like a clip or a magnetic attacment is rocket science or are some obscure ideas!
Neither is the flip and erase …..hey some styli even have a couple buttons on them to allow for other shortcuts .. some customizable. Apple did not need to peer into the future to see these… all they had to do was look in the past. .. but never the less here we are…….the blatant neglects were obvious from day one.

Granted.. the feel of how it draws is superior… but no excuse to neglect the rest… unless its by design,…which may very well be….

Also remember the smart connector… why not allow charging through a design sheme like that… whats with the ridiculous charging solution with sticking the pencel in the lightning port… ridiculous looking and vulnerable to breakage. At least provide a little dongle so the pen does not have to stick a foot out and it can be placed next or on top of the tablet. ! Or whats with the micro adapter…i dont even know where to look for the thing anymore. I think my chihuahua swallowed it thinking it was morsel of cookie.

Probably a reasonable charging solution will show up in version 4…. lol..

Its a bit too much of milking the customer… there has to be a balance.
Lately a lot of Apples actions seem to be way off balance …imo .

  3. Truly revolutionary. This is the kind of magic innovation that only Apple is capable of. It will be the thinnest and lightest Apple Pencil ever made. Like a finely crafted jewel. It will be available “by the end of October” 2020 and will ship sometime in 2021.

  4. They could have had that in the first gen, but they rather make it buy it again, and again, and again.

Gen 3 will have an eraser feature like the Wacoms. It’s obvious.

    Another Apple FAIL.

  5. I bought a Sena cover for iPad Pro 9.7″ instead of the Apple cover.
The Apple Pencil also sticks to the Sena cover nicely (magnetism).
Ergo, an Apple Pencil 2 with magnetism is a non-issue—the Apple Pencil 1 already has it!
