Why Peter Thiel is wrong about Apple

“In an interview with the New York Times, venture capitalist Peter Thiel affirmed that ‘The age of Apple is over,'” Mark Hibben writes for Seeking Alpha. “He went on to say that there would be no more innovation in smartphones. Thiel is wrong about Apple and mobile device technology.”

“I think it’s worth noting that the interview appeared not in the Technology or Business sections of the Times, but in the Fashion section,” Hibben writes. “Having observed and reported on the frenetic pace of mobile device innovation for a few years now, I think Thiel’s assertion regarding smartphones is specious on its face. Smartphones continue to be a key area of innovation in microprocessor technology, cellular communications, display screens and battery technology.”

“Apple is probably the most important innovator in ARM processors for smartphones of any company on the planet. The company’s problem has been and continues to be leveraging that innovation for market advantage. Each new iPhone release features an all-new ARM architecture processor that is the fastest in the industry,” Hibben writes. “Apple has the most profitable computing platform on the planet in its iOS devices. It has world-class ARM processor design expertise that it continues to leverage into new products such as Apple Watch and the wireless Air Pods. Apple’s various operating systems share a rock-solid foundation in OS X. Apple has proven that its ability to integrate hardware and software is the best in the consumer electronics industry.”

MacDailyNews Take: Again, we believe Thiel meant that the age of iPhone is over, not Apple. Either way, he couldn’t be more wrong.

The iPhone age has many years left in its run and Apple, of all companies, has done it multiple times (Apple II, Mac, iPod, iTunes, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch) and, we’re certain, will do it again!

  1. His opinion is as credible as his detached clasim that silicon valley doesn’t that the rest of the country tolerates Silicon Valley because people there just don’t have that much sex, or… They’re not having that much fun..

Fake president surounds himself with delusional fakes and credentals.

  2. Thiel has no creativity if he can not imagine Apple watching & learning what materials, processes, chips and sensors along with software advances are occurring and then expanding what they offer us consumers.

Apple has creative people who are watching and imagining what comes next.

  3. Well as Charles H. Duell, Commissioner of the US Patent Office, said in 1899 “Everything that can be invented has been invented.”

So we might as well dust off our hands, admit defeat and prepare for the coming new age of stagnified unnovation (well at least according to Thiel). Thief can be reassuringly secure in the knowledge his words won’t come back to haunt him.

  4. One day Facebook is going to be selling AR glasses. Maybe Thiel has seen prototypes and believe this device will make the iPhone/smartphone obsolete.

Thiel’s statement does have validity if the Facebook glasses can accomplish the following:

    1. They can be used without the aid of a smartphone.

    2. They have the equivalent battery life of a smartphone and/or have wireless range charging.

    3. They look almost like regular glasses.

    4. They don’t cause the user to have vertigo or be depressed when the device is off. VR is causing psychological problems when users unhook from the fantasy.

    5. They develop a robust smart glasses app market.

    6. They have multiple or foolproof input methods. Eye tracking looks promising, but a company like Facebook is going to want to read minds for advertising purposes. If Facebook has cracked the mind reading nut without requiring a helmet or surgery then the device will make the smartphone look like a horse and buggy.

    1. Do you have a brain?

Patently false. Golden showers never happened. Discredited opposition paid for research paper. Fake news.

      Nuff said.

And yes, Peter has the good sense to back a winner.

      1. Dream on, your man is a lying, abusive, clown, put into office by those who will suffer as a result. Unfortunately, you believe the man who lies 70% of the time he opens his mouth. Good times!

        1. Your unoriginal childish name calling (clown) is inconsequential. And you did not address my post and refute the facts. Good thing too.

Fact: The golden showers meme was penned by a paid opposition research lying scum employed by the Democrats. It never happened and has been thoroughly DISCREDITED. Fake news.

Keep on crying and trying, Michael …

My man will do great things for even his detractors, like you. Good times, indeed.

          MAGA! 🇺🇸

        2. Now, now. There’s ‘fake’ on one side and ‘fake’ on the other. Both sides, both worthless political parties, are perpetrators of FAKE. That’s one reason why I personally have no use for either of them.

And BTW: You wrote me a reply stating:
Personally, could not care less either way. Always preferred substance over style. Git ‘er done!

          And now you’re:
My man will do great things for even his detractors, like you. Good times, indeed.

I don’t think those two philosophies are going to merge. Sorry.

        3. “Your Now, now. There’s ‘fake’ on one side and ‘fake’ on the other. Both sides, both worthless political parties, are perpetrators of FAKE. That’s one reason why I personally have no use for either of them.”

I have to respectfully disagree with you. I believe the Democrats own the lion share of FAKE NEWS. After all, they OWN the media. Have you not read polls going back 30 years that RANK journalists LOWER than used car salesman?

“And BTW: You wrote me a reply stating:
Personally, could not care less either way. Always preferred substance over style. Git ‘er done!”

          Yup.

“And now you’re. My man will do great things for even his detractors, like you. Good times, indeed.”

I don’t think those two philosophies are going to merge. Sorry.”

          We shall see. 🇺🇸

          Peace. ✌️

        4. I’ve been cogitating over all this and I actually see your point that ‘my man’ will git at least some positive things done. I’m already pleased that he stopped the TTP and TTIP treaties dead.

So, no war here. It is, however, going to be interesting to say the least. Peace back at you! 🇺🇸✌️

  5. Interesting…it was the “comrades” over at the Communist Party USA that sided with the Pantsuit Nation (after Bernie, of course) and really despised Don. I think you got your idealogical terms mixed a bit. I guess “golden showers” was along the same line…another mix up. Just to clarify, I understand Peter Thiel did support Trump for prez.

  6. Narcissistic personality disorder

…exaggerated feelings of self-importance, an excessive need for admiration, and a lack of understanding of others’ feelings. People affected by it often spend a lot of time thinking about achieving power or success, or about their appearance. They often take advantage of the people around them. The behavior typically begins by early adulthood, and occurs across a variety of situations.

“Mirror mirror, on the wall…” 😛
