“Apple today released a new update for Safari Technology Preview, the experimental browser Apple first introduced in March of 2016,” Juli Clover reports for MacRumors.
“Apple designed the Safari Technology Preview to test features that may be introduced into future release versions of Safari,” Clover reports. “Safari Technology Preview release 20 includes bug fixes and updates for Visual Viewport, Touch Bar, JavaScript, Web API, Security, CSS, Pointer Lock, Web Inspector, WebCrypto API, and more”
Clover reports, “The Safari Technology Preview update is available through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store to anyone who has downloaded the browser.”

Doesn’t seem like Apple is treating Safari as “legacy software.”
Safari could be a lot more user friendly if Apple simply added the various features add-on GLIMS provided. Unfortunately GLIMS and now SafariStand no longer work on Safari due to Apple software changes. Useful features included specific tab placement on link command clicks, favicons, tab width control, and dated download folders. SafariStand provided tab movement through mouse scrolling or trackpad swipe.
I really liked the dated download folders. But it’s not really Apple’s fault that GLIMS doesn’t work. It hasn’t been updated since November, 2013.
SafarStand is apparently no longer being supported either. I haven’t tried it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t work.
Glims stopped working with Safari 6 due to Apple coding changes. SafariStand stopped functioning on Yosemite when Safari 10 made its debut (still works with Safari 9.1.3). SS never worked on Sierra.
