I think he explained it quite many times why he supported the other candidate. Trump’s campaign promised to kick illegal immigrants out, close the doors for new immigrants, impose tariffs for American companies manufacturing in China for the US market, pull out of Paris Climate Accord, etc. Apple as a company has generally always supported issues that are more commonly associated with progressive / liberal causes.
And for a company (and a CEO) that generally supports such causes, it is quite obvious why there would be the need to explain why they are now meeting with the President-Elect (the President is still Obama, for another month).
And his explanation is quite articulate. Apple has always supported very diverse work force. And if you look at MDN’s take, you’ll perhaps understand why Apple is so great at innovation. There is a great, immense value in embracing diversity. Only one country in the world can truly claim such rich diversity (America), and until this year, it has truly been the only place in the world that largely never discriminated against anyone. And this unique quality is the main reason America has become what it is.
When we think of all those Syrian refugees streaming out of Aleppo (and the rest of Syria), let us not forget, Steve Jobs was half-Syrian by birth…

Tim, it’d be cheaper to pay American workers a fair wage and get a sound corporate tax policy than it would be to continue importing cheap foreign labor on H-1B visas and be stuck with Democrats who love to overtax and tax the wrong things which stifles the economy overall (hurting the business of selling consumer goods, including electronics, by the way).
American companies and their shareholders, in general, want skilled labor as CHEAPLY as possible. That’s a main reason why Tim Cook, Apple and other tech firms are not supporting Trump – they want unlimited H-1Bs, so they can pay Ajeet from India half what they’d have to pay Tom from Tulsa who can’t find a job after graduating from college and has to live in his parents basement because Apple got Ajeet from India to do it on the CHEAP.
H1-B visas for skilled workers DO NOT EQUAL uneducated illegal aliens streaming across the southern border intent on cashing in on American taxpayer’s largesse while setting up shop in the domestic drug trade and/or other crimes (gangs, rape, robbery, etc.).

The problem is really with the massive ideological division in America. Now that anyone can live in their ideological bubble and see and hear only what they want to see and hear, any conversation between the two ideological tribes has long ago ceased.
Larger problem is the fact that, because one only listens to what one wants to hear, there is practically zero exposure, for either side, to any alternative position. The fact that large percent of Americans continue to believe that their president was born overseas, that he is not of Christian faith, or that Hillary Clinton runs (or had run) a child prostitution ring out of a Washington, D.C. pizzeria tells you that America has come to a point where its people prefer to believe obviously fake news than to hear what those who are ideologically on the other side have to say.
Forums like MDN are probably the only place where such people can occasionally glimpse the opposing side. Judging by the reaction of quite many here, it is obvious that they simply refuse to even bother. Once the mind is set, and is reinforced by the echo-chamber of your like-minded people, there is no incentive to challenge one’s own mindset by looking outside.
In order to get a better picture of America, I make it a point to look across the spectrum: Fox, CNN, WSJ, NY Times, occasionally Huffington, the Blaze and similar. How many here can honestly say that?

Just to temper your enthusiasm a bit; there is nothing genius about telling the people anything they want to hear. According to virtually all fact-checking organisations, during the campaign, over 80% of purportedly factual statements Trump made during the campaign (“unemployment numbers are bogus!” “Crime rates are reaching record levels!”, etc) are simply completely made up.
If you tell the voters only the stuff they want to hear (“Well bring every single one of those jobs back!”), they tend to believe you; after all, you are running for office, so most people expect at least some level of honesty (average politician only lies about 20 – 30% of the time).
It remains to be seen how America will fare with Trump, but early signals aren’t good. While Trump tweets away, China prepares to retaliate against the US for the Taiwan insult….

Rasmussen did a poll saying that American’s had only about a 30% confidence in the so-called “fact checkers” and could tell that they were politically biassed. There are numerous examples of extreme and flagrant bias, one example that I recall, they said that Trump was lying when he said Hillary used acid to clean her servers when she used a program called “BleachBit” which is different, but it is a distinction without a meaningful difference and thus mindless nit picking. That’s not what I would consider “fact checking”.
Thus the 80% fabricated figure you used is simply gas lighting for Clinton that fell flat.

While Trump sets our foreign policy based upon what makes sense for the US, China will do what is good for China.
