Apple AirPods now estimated to ship in 6 weeks

“Apple has updated its website to indicate AirPods are now estimated to ship in 6 weeks in the United States and many other countries around the world,” Joe Rossignol reports for MacRumors. “The wireless earphones have been available for purchase on Apple’s website since yesterday, with initial orders set to be delivered as early as December 19. ”

“Apple said AirPods will be shipping in limited quantities at launch, so it is unsurprising that shipping estimates have quickly slipped from 2 weeks to 4 weeks to 6 weeks around the world,” Rossignol reports. “However, those who missed out still have a chance, as Apple said AirPods will be available for purchase at Apple Stores, authorized resellers, and select carriers next week.”

Rossignol reports, “Apple noted stores will receive ‘regular AirPods shipments,’ and customers would be wise to call their local store ahead of time to confirm stock.”

MacDailyNews Take: There’s still an outside chance to get those AirPods stocking stuffers in time for Christmas! If you can’t manage to get them at your local Apple location, you can always massively overpay for them on eBay!

    1. I can’t believe how bipolar MDN is. One article SteveJack one man show talks about how incompetent Cook and Apple are, then “you can still get the AirPods in time for Christmas! or something”.

I cannot believe a company this big, with so many employees and so much money, continues to fail at shipping products even remotely close to a scheduled launch time, let alone having enough supply throughout the first half of the product lifecycle.

      1. I have a feeling you just missed the sarcasm in the tone of the MDN take. While not explicitly stating that Cook is incompetent, the recommendation to “massively overpay on eBay” for these airpods is a backhanded dig at his ability to manage supply chain and make enough of them for the biggest shopping season of the year.

    2. Agree, that is why he must GO!
We are done with this nonsense from the clueless idiot.

  1. I heard about the release 3 hours after the fact, shipping times were 4 weeks out by then. I ordered a pair in the US (a friend will be traveling from there in Jan) and one here in Poland. Hopefully I can find one in an iSpot reseller next week and cancel my orders, but I’m not holding my breath.

  2. Supply constraints from the supply chain genius. In the previous Apple, heads would have rolled.

In Cook’s Apple, he will have a hug in and celebrate diversity in the executive retreat, then go back to decorating their new offices in the donut.

    1. MDN, are we related? On same page as you.

      Where are:
      Mac Pros
      iMacs
      Mac Mini
Sensible shipping times for MacBook Pros for Xmas

  3. No watches at the stores…no new computers…iPhones in short supply…AirPods- might as well write those off too.
What’s wrong with Apple? Did they severely underestimate the demand of ALL their products, or is Apple selling at an all time high? By the looks it seems Apple messed up the demand. Stock holders should be screaming to get the execs heads on a platter for messing up so badly.

  4. Wow, Apple can’t win. It’s either, “Apple can’t even ship a product in time for Christmas” to now “Apple can’t even make enough to meet demand”. I think Apple made the right move. We do not know why the AirPods were delayed in the first place. Does anyone truly think Apple wanted to delay this product? There was most likely a bug found last minute and because Apple focuses on quality over quantity, decided to hold off until the issue was properly resolved. This is how you avoid exploding products….

Some people would have said, “Apple should not release a product until they have enough units.” Why would Apple not want to sell all the units they do have just in time for Christmas. At least some people will have them in time for Christmas. Plus, lets assume Apple was able to produce 1 million units for the global launch (this sound reasonable). Why would Apple wait to earn 160 million in revenue just so they would not sell out. They probably would have sold out even if they had more units. Not to mention we have no clue what is involved in the supply chain for these devices. There are only so many manufacturing facilities in the world that are also making devices for thousands of other companies.

    1. “There was most likely a bug found last minute…”
      You’re just guessing. I don’t know. You don’t know.
Nobody knows. The most aggravating thing about
Apple is their paranoid secretiveness. Why don’t
they tell us straight up? We’re not children. We’ll
understand. And another thing is Beats X. Why
won’t it be out ’till February? This is why God gave
us bourbon, wine, and beer so we won’t go crazy.
