“What’s the difference between the Apple Watch Series 2 and the special edition Apple Watch Nike+?” Neil Hughes reports for AppleInsider. “Not much, including the price, which makes the exclusive Nike version of the wearable fitness device a solid candidate for runners.”
“Given that there’s no extra cost associated with the Nike branding, choosing the Nike+ version of the Apple Watch really comes down to how much you like the exclusive lightweight sport band,” Hughes reports. “The Nike band is noticeably lighter than the regular sport band. While we wouldn’t characterize the sport band as heavy, the difference is noticeable when making the switch. Secondly, with less material, the Nike Sport Band is also far more flexible than the legacy sport band. We found this makes it easier to put on our wrist.”
“The other major unique feature for the Apple Watch Nike+ is the inclusion of two Nike-branded watch faces. This software-only addition is exclusive to the Nike version of Apple Watch Series 2,” Hughes reports. “The main digital Nike face displays a quick link to the Nike+ app, the Activity rings complication, weather conditions, and details on the wearer’s latest run via the Nike+ Run Club app.”

MacDailyNews Take: Being able to run without our iPhones thanks to onboard GPS and having the easy-to-read and easy-to-use Nike+ watch face and Run Club app makes Apple Watch Nike+ the best choice for runners.
I am so not a runner, but I chose the Nike version over the standard for my forthcoming 50th birthday.
I bought one too, and congrats on your 50th. 50 feels a little different to most of us.
Anyway, great watch, and it works for the most part though there have been some inconsistencies in mapping.
Enjoy!
I just turned 50 too. I feel better now than I did 10 years ago.
But divorce has a way of making you get back into shape too.
I am a semi-runner, but decided to go with the normal 2.0 watch since I can have 5 data choices on the front screen instead of just 3 with the Nike version.
i replaced my original with a Nike version..
Love the thing all together… Nike faces are fantastic.
I ordered a Nike+ because all the other wrist band options that come with silver aluminum suck. Why can’t I get a silver aluminum Apple watch with a black band? Stupid! At least I like one of the Nike wrist bands.
Runmeter is a FAR better running app.
The walkmeter/bikemeter/runmeter apps are all the same, just different names. I love this/these apps. A lot of customizing for intervals and laps and pace settings for voice feedback to stay in certain zones.
If you want a good running app, get Runtastic. I wouldn’t care about Nike’s Run Club.
Still missing a selection of WELL designed faces.
And please, get rid of the name “complication” for widgets or however those shortcuts/direct links/favorites could be called. Complication is a term from the watch industry but neither consumers nor people at the sales department or Apple Care are familiar with it! Call Apple Care and see what happens when you ask about complications on your Apple Watch. They will think there is something too complicated for you, that you have a problem. LOL!
Not sure if anyone else is seeing this, but the battery duration on the series 2 is fantastic. My 1st gen will show between 30-50 percent at the end of the day. I haven’t seen anything less that 75 percent with the series 2 (both 42mm).
How is battery life when using the GPS?
Between 5-6 hours of battery life while running using GPS and Heart Rate without an iPhone.
And yet with two weeks befor Christmas you can’t find a watch in stock… with online orders delivering in a January. Smh
Try Best Buy. They still have some series 2 in stock with 2 day delivery.
