Apple CEO Cook: Apple Watch sales to consumers set record in holiday week

“Sales of the Apple Watch to consumers set a record during the first week of holiday shopping, and the current quarter is on track to be the best ever for the product, Apple Inc. Chief Executive Tim Cook told Reuters,” Julia Love reports for Reuters. “Responding to an email from Reuters, Cook said the gadget’s sell-through – a measure of how many units are sold to consumers, rather than simply stocked on retailers’ shelves – reached a new high.”

“Cook’s comments followed a report on Monday from technology research firm IDC estimating that the tech giant sold 1.1 million units of the Apple Watch during the third quarter of 2016, down 71 percent from the year-ago quarter,” Love reports. “‘Our data shows that Apple Watch is doing great and looks to be one of the most popular holiday gifts this year,’ Cook wrote. ‘Sales growth is off the charts. In fact, during the first week of holiday shopping, our sell-through of Apple Watch was greater than any week in the product’s history. And as we expected, we’re on track for the best quarter ever for Apple Watch,’ he said.”

MacDailyNews Take: Nice to see Cook taking control of the narrative. More, please!

There is simply no better holiday gift for iPhone owners than an Apple Watch.

As we wrote a year and three days ago:

Mixing Apple Watches that start at $349 [now $269] with fitness bands that you can get for under $20 (Xiaomi Mi Band) is a goofy way to measure unit share, but, of course, if IDC measured anything correctly, we’d probably have a collective stroke.

  1. @That’s Too Bad. What say you? If Apple watch is a failure, then how do you explain the 2 new Apple watches on my girlfriends co-workers wrists @ her DDS office? Hmmm?

BTW. They Fkin’ LOVE THEM TOO! Bozo.

  2. So much for the doofus trolls take in their usual stance of trying to take down Apple & Tim Cook but understanding nothing. An updated product in a new sales cycle is always at an advantage. I know some of the regulars are likewise pessimistic but at least offer up cogent reasons instead of just mindless ranting troll gibberish from our unfriendly neighborhood troll here of many guises (which MDN needs to put a stop to and make all posters register as one consistent identity).

    1. I have been calling for mandatory registration to post for many years. MDN has responded a couple of times, and always in the negative because they value all inputs or some crap like that. In truth, they value clicks for advertising revenue.

Even your registered username is unprotected. Anyone can post anonymously using your handle. It just won’t be blue.

      1. Trolls know if they have to register the jig will be up and they can no longer taunt and act with impunity. MDN is morally conflicted by the profits to be made by a site with these kinds of problems with more hits and thus an upside to them.

Oh yeah I’ve had my handle misused a few times, as have you. And others. The Trolls LOVE to mock the regulars in an attempt to create complete site anarchy and chaos. At least we have the true blue – which is the real deal. 🙂

  3. I have no idea what you’re talking about. Every regular here has cause and is suspect to hate POS troll morons like you (AND your idiotic postings) and “hack” you down depriving you of the starry glory in which you adolescently crave. Only trolls care about ratings and you have only betrayed yourself by caring so much. I hope whoever’s doing it keeps doing it until you leave, being deprived of your star oxygen.
