“Plans for a ‘Rue Steve Jobs’ (that’s Steve Jobs Road) in Paris have come under criticism from far-left protesters, who are demanding that the road is instead named after a woman from tech history as part of the march toward ‘gender equality,’ Luke Dormehl reports for Cult of Mac. “The group, Front de Gauche, also takes issue with Jobs being name-checked due to various issues that it has with Apple as a company.”
“Rue Steve Jobs is a name decided by local mayor, Jérôme Coumet, who wanted to use it to inspire others based on Jobs’ history of technological innovation,” Dormehl reports. “The name would be given to a road in a part of Paris set to host the Halle Freyssinet, a massive $220 million startup campus that will be home to 1,000 startups.”
Front de Gauche “in a statement, decry the call for Rue Steve as ‘controversial,'” Dormehl reports. “They then list criticisms of Apple, ranging from its suppliers allegedly treating factory workers as ‘slaves,’ and its own ‘illegal tax optimization practices.’ Instead, they want the street named Rue Ada Lovelace, after the British woman is often described as the world’s first computer programmer.”
Read more in the full article here.
MacDailyNews Take: “Slaves?” Wrong. Apple has done more to raise Chinese workers’ wages and foster workers’ rights in China than any company in the world. “Illegal tax optimization practices?” Wrong. Perfectly legal tax avoidance, not evasion.
Misplaced indignation from the woefully confused has grown beyond tiresome. This is but a tiny insight into why swaths of Paris, and indeed parts of France itself, have become cesspools that nobody wants to visit, much less live in or near.
On that note, tap the keg! It’s fine Austrian brew for us this eve, none of that nasty French toilet water here!
They shall come to rue Steve Jobs for their opposition.
It’s actually amusing to see the usual fanboi MDN editor highlight their ignorance of world events, politics and geography.
The regency to “Muslim no-go zones” is amusing, if it weren’t repeating a Trumpian trope. I can understand why commenters like botvinnik remain unchallenged and unblocked, seeing as it is his peers running this site.
As an Austrian, i wouldn’t lift a brew to Austria’s tendency to lean more and more towards fascist right-wing leaders.
The world is denouncing leftist losers everywhere – even in France. Let’s go back to ostracizing the looney leftists instead of feigning interest in every crackpot “injustice” they concoct. The world was a far, far better place when we did just that. Go back to the fringe, snowflakes. Real men are back in charge soon.
The leftist French Surrender Monkeys are, as always, fools.
Extreme left or right – both are crazy. At least you have one eye open.
The world isn’t left or right. Math isn’t. Physics isn’t. Ethics aren’t. Problems aren’t and solutions aren’t. Despite many claims to the contrary.
The worst partisans are the ones only see the bad in other parties or can’t see the bad behavior of their own team.
Such extreme partisanship, complete with name-calling, prevailed for a time even in Physics, until it was resolved by appeal to experimental science, the ultimate arbiter, and adjudicated by real men, who came together afterwards to shake hands and admit their mistakes. ‘Tis a pity the Human Sciences are not as accommodating to the passions of True Believers.
“Although parity is conserved in electromagnetism, strong interactions and gravity, it turns out to be violated in weak interactions. The Standard Model incorporates parity violation by expressing the weak interaction as a chiral gauge interaction. Only the left-handed components of particles and right-handed components of antiparticles participate in weak interactions in the Standard Model. This implies that parity is not a symmetry of our universe, unless a hidden mirror sector exists in which parity is violated in the opposite way.” — Wikipedia
God, I love it when you talk that way.
Let’s get together, big boy. We could investigate the details of quantum entanglement. 😉
Oh, Little Lady! How I’d love to explore your discrete quantity of momentum …but alas, what about Melvin?
He’s just a jealous guy.
You might be disappointed at the superposition, as in “half I, and half out”.
I can’t quite put my finger on why, but that’s quite funny, “half in and half out.” I guess you had to be there… 😂
halfway…
😛
Please, do not encourage the production of any baby bottles, Herself. One of his ilk appears to be All that this world can withstand without fracturing.
lol
lol
Indeed!
In math and the sciences at least, there’s only room for opinion in the absence of knowledge, otherwise it’s called fact,
I love your thinking. Even so, scientists forever differ in their opinions about interpreting particular facts, about the importance of specific knowledge. The overall success of the scientific enterprise is due to eventually arriving at an overwhelming consensus, at which point social action can be launched. It is a political process like any other, voting for the candidate most likely to succeed. While you can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, you can’t fool all of the people all of the time; and for sure you can’t fool Mother Nature. You wind up fooling yourself.
Love yours as well, but I’ll tone it down. Don’t want to upset Botty. I hear his mom is giving him grief again, and he still doesn’t know who his father is…
But I digress… Your last sentence is indeed beautiful.
You can lock up Galileo, but Venus will just keep whizzing by, flipping the bird to earth centered universalists. 🙂
Lighten up Zink
JFK’S
Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60’s when
DE Gaulle decided to pull out of NATO. DE Gaulle said he wanted all US
military out of France as soon as possible.
Rusk responded,
“Does that include those who are buried here?”
DE Gaulle
did not respond.

There was a conference in France
where a number of international engineers
were taking part, including French and American. During a break,
one of the French engineers came back into the room saying, “Have you
heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft
carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he
intend to do, bomb them?”
A Boeing engineer
stood up and replied quietly: “Our carriers have three
hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are
nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to
shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to
feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand
gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a
dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and
from their flight deck. We have eleven such ships;
how many does France have?”

A U.S. Navy Admiral
was attending a naval conference that included
Admirals from the U.S., English, Canadian, Australian and French
Navies At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large
group of officers that included personnel from most of those countries.
Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a
French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many
languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked, “Why is it that
we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than
speaking French?”
Without hesitating,
the American Admiral replied, “Maybe it’s because the
Brit’s, Canadians, Aussie’s and Americans arranged it so you wouldn’t
have to speak German.”

AND
THIS STORY FITS RIGHT IN WITH THE ABOVE…
Robert Whiting,
an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane.
At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport
in his carry on.
“You
have been to France before, monsieur?” the customs officer asked
sarcastically.
Mr. Whiting
admitted that he had been to France
previously.
“Then
you should know enough to have your passport ready.”
The American said,
“The last time I was here, I didn’t have to show it.”
“Impossible.
Americans always have to show their passports on arrival in France !”
The American senior
gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he
quietly explained, ”Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in
1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn’t find a single Frenchmen
to show a passport to”

Awesome post. Stupid leftist Europeans are a bunch of bleeding heart idiots and look where their country is, in the friggin toilet.
Owing $20 trillion due to unnecessary wars and bailing out financial corruption isn’t exactly great either.
Stupidity is widespread among political partisans of all colors.
Agreed. And I am surprised that you got such a large number of positive votes by stating the truth.
The flag wavers on this forum might want to remember that without the French this country might never have existed. That they gave use the Statue of Liberty, but it took this country many years to pull together the money to build the base. That we avoided engaging in WWII until we were attacked, and that was almost too late, even with Hitler opening up a second front with Russia. That we have messed around with countries all over the world for many decades, generally with disastrous results. That the “good old days” of he USA include slavery, the bloodiest civil war in world history, incredible abuse of workers, discrimination again women, discrimination against African Americans, internment of innocent Japanese who were U.S. citizens, radical anti-socialist actions sponsored by the government (McCarthy era), torture and illegal, indefinite detainment, etc.
I am a U.S. citizen and a strong supporter of the ideals upon which this country’s as founded. But we have a lot of issues in this country that need to be addressed. Pointing the finger at other countries is easy. Try applying that critical eye to our own country.
Melvin, you’re backin’ up faster than Turd Cruz. “The ideals upon which this country is founded” is not the statist, marxist horseshit you’ve been espousing for the last ten years on this forum. In fact, if you visited Monticello circa 1808, Jefferson would send you on a one-way trip down his dumbwaiter.
NICE! 😉
iConcur Dr. botvinnik
You know about his dumbwaiter? Growing up in Virginia my school took us to Monticello, and I got to see and touch Jefferson’s many ingenious inventions. During the tour, I seriously wanted to climb into the dumbwaiter, when the tour guide’s back was turned, and ride it down to explore the rest of the mansion. But adults always seemed to have it in for me, bent on squelching my spirit of scientific enquiry. They still are, I guess.
superb post.
Nice anecdotes. Really. Fun stories.
You do realize that the Left Front protesters and activists do NOT represent the French government? In fact it is a French government official that wants to name a street after a great American liberal. 😉
The people in this thread that are lashing out against ‘the French’ for the actions of some ignorant delusional leftists, only show themselves equally ignorant.
If Jobs was a liberal, then I’m Donald Trump!
A totally self centered, narcissist cannot be both himself, and a liberal, unless he were quantumly entangled like Botty.
It is the “self centered” (good or bad) that make history, everyone just goes along for the ride.
“…Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.”
Bury your head in the sand if you will, but Jobs through the companies he built represents many of the liberal ideals – hard to grasp for myopic conservative followers.
He just didn’t care for accolades in return for his endeavors.
You can’t be al liberal and a censor.
Sure you can.
You are falling victim to the fallacy of relative privation.
What censorship are you talking about?
Please elaborate on your hypothesis of “fallacy of relative privation.” Normally, I don’t like to shoot fish in a barrel, but in your case, I’d make an exception.
Botty darling! I didn’t know you cared…
His censorship of iOS is not a “relative” censorship so as to apply “privation”. It is absolute.
A liberal does not force people to continue to buy from them (App Store). It might make him a good businessman, but still not a liberal.
He once banned all Wiley publications for a brief period over WIley publishing a book about him …
The exact opposite of a liberal position!
Is it his right to carry whatever he wants in his store? Absolutely!
When he imposes his store as the only one, that gets elevated from curation to censorship.
Otherwise, I agree with you on in the defense of France stuff.
Whatever you want to believe – it’s obvious your definition of ‘liberal’ is unswervingly narrow and dogmatic.
Relative privation, loosely, means that he can be several things at the same time – and doesn’t require strict dogmatism.
Not that you would agree, or understand, based on your displayed purely dogmatic stance.
Words have meanings, I appreciate subtlety, but avoid ambiguity.
But since we’re in appreciation of France in this thread, I think it’s quite apropos I let someone else define what a liberal is in context to our discussion.
“I Disapprove of What You Say, But I Will Defend to the Death Your Right to Say It” -Evelyn Beatrice Hall as an illustration of Voltaire’s beliefs
You forgot the one where Ben Franklin goes to France and gets the money and arms required for a colony to separate and become an independent nation. Talk about backing a bunch of losers.
It’s pretty obvious that the France-Haters in this thread also hate other things – like history and education.
Zink: being critical of something/one doesn’t = hate. Having a view that differs from your paradigm doesn’t mean they’re ignorant. Maybe it’s time you step gently off the high horse on which you’ve been patrolling?
Since you weren’t paying attention :
The government of France intends to honor Steve Jobs by naming a street after him.
A fringe group of French extreme leftists opposes that.
This is being used by the usual right-wing imbéciles on here to demonize, lambast, and lash out at France. Unjustified.
Therefore, these imbéciles are typically ignorant and uneducated.
How about if we just use it to bash the Left. Far Left and Right zealots both supply poisonous behavior. I only wish that the mendacity of the Left was called out as frequently as the ugliness on the Right.
You got that right. It’s extra funny when they go after the French, I call it biting the hand that freed them.
Exactly. Unbeknownst to them, their contributions to this thread are just entertaining in a “haha” kinda way.
So what’s the best Austrian beer, can’t say I have ever come across one.
You should try to broaden your horizons. There is no finer beer than Austrian beer, German beer being a close second.
Me neither. Belgian and Czech beer very good. Austrian??? Even Finnish beer is better.
I wouldn’t know – I’m not an alcoholic, like you.
He is also not an idiot like you. You can enjoy good beer without being alcoholic.
Drop your sister off in Cologne on New Year’s and then report back on how that goes.
Thanks.

Rue Ada Lovelace sounds lovely to me. — I’d do the tourist thing and do a selfie by the signpost. France could use more tourism, it would bolster their economy. They might also consider Alan Turing, and I would boldly nominate Lynn Conway, without whom we would still be poking at abaci.
be sure and wear a burka.
I would say she’s worthy, but would “no relation to Linda” fit on the street sign?
heh.
I agree, Herself. Rue Ada Lovelace is wonderful, and there are many other other great people who should be similarly honored, like Alan Turing.
The debate on this forum is actually rather funny, because I don’t believe that Steve sought public honors like this. He seemed to be far more interested in the personal delight and reward of successfully creating great new things, as well as the regard and respect of his colleagues. But that is just my opinion based on what I observed over the years.
You would be correct – he cared more about doing what’s right, or wanting something to be done right, than accolades or public recognition.
It’s unfortunate that he is no longer around, for so many reasons.
74 words just to say, “I got nuthin.”
“fascist right-wing leaders”
Those are two different things, but as a Leftist, you will never see nor admit this.
Europe and the States went so far left that you had to expect the pendulum to swing the other way, hey Zinkyman? The left don’t believe in boarders any more. They want transgender washrooms, that want Spanish to officially be America’s second language and force bilingualism, allow blacks to target the big bad police.
No wonder Trump won. The left is so lost, so confused, and without the black vote, they’ll never win another election. Expect another Black candidate for the democrats. They lost white America for good.
Two thumbs up for Steve Jobs Street.
I assume you meant ‘borders’ a like most of your ilk, you are heavily challenged when it comes to even your own native language (yet, ironically, demand that everyone speak English, when you yourself have a worse command of it than the average immigrant).
MDN doesn’t offer editing. But thanks for the left wing sarcasm.
May the right in Austria rise and panic your sweet little heart. Blacks have Africa, the Japanese have Japan, it’s time for Whites to clean house and kill the EU. Brexit, The US, and hopefully a sweep in Europe soon. Get ready Zinkyman.
The irony in all of your nationalistic spouting is that I’m far more likely to end up in a leadership position under your Neue Weltordnung, due to my background and origin, while you would, at best, be destined to spit-shine my boots. At best.
The Neue Weltordnung that you are so excited about doesn’t exactly coddle those of dirty and lesser Abstammung.
Enjoy looking up the big words and practice saluting.
liar, liar, your Reichstag’s on fire.
… and yet, you don’t even have your aryan provenance and confirmation documents…. Snap!
hey Stink, tell us again how George Soros being a teenage Nazi collaborator was a “right wing-nut lie.”
go ahead, just for old times.
You do realize that the US has no formal language, right?
Sad, sad post, Mark. I fear for the future of this country with truly misguided citizens like you. Unless Trump radically changes his positions from his campaign (and he is already flipping on a lot of them), you are doomed to be horribly disappointed in your goals for white supremacy, even with the terrible influence of the alt-left on the election and Trump’s administration.
I am white and I completely disavow having anything is common with you and your like-minded ilk.
Holy shit, you made me realize something…
I’m white too!
And I agree with you.
How about rename every French place name in the US after something American? Rename all the Lafayettes, LaSalles, DuBois, and Joliets place names with Jefferson, Washington, Kennedy, and even Steve Jobs. We unfortunately have to get rid of all the Marquettes in the Great Lakes area, but a point must be made! Respect is a two way street!
Trump should nuke France and all those damn immigrants into oblivion. Give’em their 72 virgins, I say.
Truly deplorable how the deplorables display their total ignorance of geography in these threads.
Master Race?
I laugh.
It’s comments like that that make me wish your father (not your mother) were a virgin!
That ol’ Awful Tower in Paree would make a mighty fine oil rig.
“Perceuse, bébé, perceuse.”
Now that’s innovative thinking!
Then we will take back your The Statue of Liberty since you are too stupid to understand “La Liberté éclairant le monde”.
We will melt her down for something useful like fifty pissoirs where we can daily declare our respect for Les États Unis.
Well, if you take her back to France she will get gang raped by the muslim vermin you’ve allowed to invade your country.
50? For each state? You better not use the one for New York then, because at least we tried to fix up the issues the flyover states caused. Me, and pretty much everyone else in the Big Apple did not support Trump, so you better thank our asses for at least trying to stop him you fool.
That reminds me, after Obama leaves we will lose those seven states and have to go back to just fifty.
Had no idea MDN has become the new meeting place for Klan rejects.
I know, right? That’s why I took a Sabbatical from this site for a little while. I love everything Apple, and I still kind of like this website, but y’all gotta stop with this political BS. I’m sick and tired of seeing both sides tearin’ each other apart while us minorities have to deal with all of the unintended after effects. Y’all actin’ like a bunch of damn fools.
oh, shut up, you boob.
It appears run by them as well, seeing as how the editorial staff has abrogated all responsibility for maintaining a civil and intelligent environment.
The irony is that all these little Gruppenführer wannabes don’t even use Macs.
You remind me of another jackass born in Austria back in ’89.
1889.
… And yet you salute his photo, and hold your copy of Mein Kampf close to your heart.
“United States forces began entering Austria on April 30, and French and British troops soon followed. On May 8, 1945, Germany surrendered unconditionally.”
You’re welcome, prick.
… and here you are, still carrying the Führer’s Torch and advocation for a rise of the Reich.
Don’t even try to hide your nationalist zealotry.
Oh, I am an American First kinda guy, in the next world war, you Austrian pussies can save yourself.
ha. ha.
The EU is the Fourth Reich.
Those FRENCH protesters need a French Style Dishonorable Discharge!
The French are envious of American economic might, that’s why they hate us so much.
European Empire once ruled the world for as much as 400-500 years. Their time is gone and it’s the American century now.
Maybe if they spent less time at sidewalk cafes and did some real work, they would be better off economically, but the French unions don’t want to work, so I guess that’s that.
Err…. What? EU is bigger economy that what the USA is. You really have to get used to it that the China will be the number one, EU number two and USA number three until India takes the 3rd spot.
And Europeans still rules the world. Languages and culture. You better start learning Native American languages and forget the English and Spanish. And now you have German immigrants offspring who brings his wife’s from East Europe. Learn the new way to salute.
Europe can’t even defend their own women.
Yea. Americans defends their women using Tic Tac’s and grabbing them by the bu***. Then shooting them to death. STFU.
uh, shooting who to death?
English isn’t exactly your primary language, is it?
‘… the China …’
Seriously?
While it’s true China’s economy is large, their economy is a house of cards.
Instead of a true supply and demand economy, they spend money to increase the GDP, thus cooking the books to make everything look good. This is why they have Ghost Cities all over China.
Sadly, the American century — the 20th Century — is over. It’s hard to predict what nation or region will be dominant this century, but it probably won’t be us. We have lost our way. What we lack in brains we make up for in ego and arrogance. The election of Trump wasn’t the start of this trend, but it just proves the point.
Your libtard loser mentality ends January 20, 2017.
Actually, it is the government in France that is trying to honor Steve my naming a street after him. It’s just a vocal minority that is protesting.
It’s pointless attempting to explain reality to the imbéciles. I’ve already explained what you did earlier.
Pain in the A= French
dont believe me? just interact with them directly for a while, in any field or area of life.
The EU “IS in FACT” … The PROBLEM!…Hello….NOT… part of the SOLUTION. Hello.
The Statue of Liberty was a joint effort between France and the United States, intended to commemorate the lasting friendship between the peoples of the two nations.
Around 1865, as the American Civil War drew to a close, the French historian Edouard de Laboulaye proposed that France create a statue to give to the United States in celebration of that nation’s success in building a “VIABLE DEMOCRACY”. MmmmmmK.
Anti Democracy all started with……… guess what country KingMel? WEWE!…… If it were not for the SACRIFICE of American Soldiers, France would cease to exist.
The EU IS Europe’s malignante CANCER.
Just please watch and report back to me your findings KingMel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTMxfAkxfQ0
Some people you just can’t reach. Just ask King Henry the VIII. As he aged, Henry became severely obese and his health suffered, contributing to his death in 1547. He is frequently characterised in his later life as a lustful, egotistical, harsh, and insecure king. Not unlike KingMel iPonder. Have a Grateful Day. Putz.
