Apple’s new iPhone 7/Plus are big sellers despite tight supply

“Apple’s iPhone 7 series smartphones accounted for 73% of U.S. iPhone sales during their first month of release, which is higher than last year’s iPhone 6S series but below the overwhelming response to the iPhone 6 series in 2014, Consumer Intelligence Research Partners said Wednesday,” Patrick Seitz reports for Investor’s Business Daily. “During its first 30 days of availability, the iPhone 6S series accounted for 71% of U.S. iPhone sales, compared with 81% for the iPhone 6 series, CIRP said.”

“”The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus launch falls between the wildly successful iPhone 6 and 6 Plus launch in 2014, and the somewhat disappointing launch of the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus in 2015,” CIRP partner and co-founder Josh Lowitz said in a statement,” Seitz reports. “‘The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus benefited from a new form factor, a larger screen, and the introduction of the even larger and premium-priced Plus model,’ [Lowitz said].”

“Android phone users accounted for 17% of iPhone buyers during the iPhone 7 launch period. That compares with 26% for last year’s iPhone 6S series launch. But it’s higher than the 12% of iPhone buyers who switched from Android during the iPhone 6 series launch, CIRP said,” Seitz reports. “The reason Android switchers were higher last year is likely because iPhone owners sat out the iPhone 6S upgrade cycle, CIRP partner and co-founder Mike Levin said in a statement.”

  1. Lenovo’s Phab 2 Pro looks interesting though being the first Google AR (Project Tango) smartphone. Relatively affordable too. I see a nice portion of Samsung S7 that got ‘burned’ possibly considering the device.

        1. Outside of Samsung, I don’t really think people are buying Android over iPhone because they think it’s a cheaper iPhones. If they are and don’t realize it the first few days after purchase I seriously doubt they use any real smartphone features and could have settled for a feature phone.

All I was saying was that those that chose the S7 series and returned it due to the battery problems may have chosen the iPhone 7 at the time due to lack of an alternate ‘interesting’ Android phone. Now there is at least the Phab 2 Pro which does things no current iPhone has yet implemented. As such, there is less impetus to select the latest iPhone and my remark that depending on future converts from the Samsung owner’s camp to prop up iPhone sales is not a good bet.

  2. I received my new iPhone 7 Plus on Monday. Each time I think that Apple cannot possibly make the iPhone faster. The iPhone 7 Plus is noticeably faster than the iPhone 6s Plus, which was already freaky fast. It’s like its whispering to you, “Come on, load a game!”
