Apple to launch 3 new iPads in March, including bezel-free 10.9-inch model, analysts say

“Apple will launch a trio of new iPad Pro models in March, including refreshed 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch versions and an all-new bezel-free 10.9-inch model, according to Barclays Research analysts Blayne Curtis, Christopher Hemmelgarn, Thomas O’Malley, and Jerry Zhang, citing sources within the company’s Asian supply chain,” Joe Rossignol reports for MacRumors.

“In a research note obtained by MacRumors, the analysts said the 10.9-inch model’s borderless design will allow for it to be the same physical size as the current-generation 9.7-inch iPad Pro,” Rossignol reports. “That means the display itself will need to have an edge-to-edge design, possibly signaling the removal of the Home button.”

The analysts expect “the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro to be a ‘low-cost’ model alongside the 7.9-inch iPad mini, which the analysts do not believe will be refreshed alongside the larger tablets,” Rossignol reports. “Instead, the research note said Apple will continue to produce and sell the iPad mini 4, released in September 2015.”

  1. It would be a nice option to have all iPads edge to edge. However, include holding options for a software bezel for thumb rest. Hold with one hand then select right/left bezel. Hold with two hands then select full bezel. No hands then bezel free. And make the pro with a file system. This cloud based crap can only go so far on iOS.

  2. I like the idea of Apple introducing new products throughout the year. It maintains the momentum for the brand and spreads out the load when launching products.
There was a time when Apple were releasing products every 2-3 months. The stock was on fire because it appear Apple were constantly bring out something new.

  3. 2017 should be the year of new Macs. There’s no reason to change ipads since they have no direct competition. Macs on the other hand are all slower than equally priced competition…. By far.

  4. If Apple does a bezel free iPad, it better have superior palm rejection, not only for An Apple pencil, but for using third party Bluetooth smart stylli.
Without much improved palm rejection, drawing apps could be problematic when using a third party stylus other than Apple’s.
