Apple seeds second iOS 10.2 beta with new emoji for public beta testers

“Apple today seeded the second beta of an upcoming iOS 10.2 update to public beta testers for testing purposes, just one over one week after releasing the first iOS 10.2 public beta, and one day after providing the second iOS 10.2 beta to developers,” Juli Clover reports for MacRumors. “Beta testers who have signed up for Apple’s beta testing program will receive the iOS 10.2 beta update over-the-air after installing the proper certificate on their iOS device.”

“iOS 10.2, as a major 10.x update, includes several new features to enhance the iOS 10 operating system,” Clover reports. “New emoji are included, introducing Unicode 9 characters like clown face, drooling face, selfie, face palm, fox face, owl, shark, butterfly, avocado, pancakes, croissant, and more, plus many profession emoji available in both male and female genders.”

“Apple has also updated the artwork on most existing emoji,” Clover reports, “adding detail to make them look less cartoonish and more realistic.”

  1. I read elsewhere that one new hidden feature will be secret emergency dialing. By pressing power button five times in quick succession, the phone will dial out to the emergency services (112 in most of the world, or 911 in US). The command will also send a predefined text message to the person in the personal address book designated as the emergency contact.

There used to be a Siri command for this (“Sire, charge my phone to 100%”), but that doesn’t seem to work anymore, as it has apparently become rather well known.

    1. After looking into that “coded” Siri command, it turns out that it wasn’t a hidden, coded message; it was just Siri misinterpreting your command. Whenever a Siri command includes the word “phone”, followed by a number, it will try to dial it. In many countries, the emergency number isn’t 112, but 100 or 110. Apple may have built a high tolerance level for interpreting the emergency numbers, so when it hears “…charge phone to hundred percent”, it thinks you tried to say “…call phone hundred and ten”, which makes it think that you’re trying to call emergency service, so it checks to see which carrier it is connected to, and based on the location / country, dials the actual emergency service number (110, 112, 911, 999, etc). Apparently, too many teenagers figured this out and probably successfully pranked each other, causing unnecessary calls to emergency services, so Apple removed it (or made Siri understand exactly what you wanted to say). Now, she no longer calls 911 when you ask to charge your phone.

  2. Designers/technicians have been take from the Mac Pro Team for these new emojis and work continues on revamping and revitalizing the existing library. Apple continues to define what consumers want/need before consumer awareness.

  3. Really Apple?
    An iOS 10 emoji update?
    Effin’ really???
    An update for…emojis?….
    More Cowbell, I mean, emoji???
    Whut duh fuct!
iOS 10 is a total effin’ joke!
Leave this sheet for the self-important, sefie, FaceBook, twiiter crowd using iPhones and iPod Touches.
iPads need a lot better, “PRODUCTIVE” features and NOT more social media/ messaging GARBAUGE!!!!
Apple needs to split the iOS team into two teams and two different ideals and goals.
One iOS team for all iPhones, iPod Touch/Nano and Apple Watches.
The other iOS team just for iPad users.
    Frickin’ emoji update!
Apple DOESN’T INNOVATE ANY MORE, AT ALL!
