“Hon Hai Precision Industry, better known as Foxconn Technology Group, is making wireless charging modules to go with the iPhone’s 10th anniversary range slated for release in 2017, according to an industry source familiar with the matter,” Debby Wu reports for Nikkei Asian Review.
“‘But whether the feature can eventually make it into Apple’s updated devices will depend on whether Foxconn can boost the yield rate to a satisfactory level later on,’ the source said,” Wu reports. “The source adds that Foxconn is making modules that will be incorporated into the handsets, but it is unclear whether all iPhone models for release in 2017 will come with the new function.”
“The introduction of wireless charging capabilities is part of Apple’s ongoing efforts to overhaul the iPhone design to boost sales during the 10th anniversary of its ubiquitous and iconic device that had transformed mobile internet and communications since the release of its first incarnation,” Wu reports. “For now, the new model has been widely dubbed iPhone 8, although Apple may christen it differently given the special occasion of its launch.”

Having just got my Apple Watch I would like the iPhone to have the same charging method purely so I could do away with a cable. I also wish that the Apple Watch charging puck was just that and you plugged it into a lightning cable. I’m getting a day’s use easy but it would make keeping cables with you much easier if you could just have one and a puck to cover your phone and watch.
Careful… Apple may get ideas to remove the lightning port as well!

Wireless charging is kind of useless.
With a connected cable, I can still use my device as it charges.
Once you remove the device from the mat, puck or whatever it’s called it stops charging.
This article makes NO sense. First of all, Apple designs the product, then has China build them. China does not design features (except manufacturing methods). Secondly, wireless charging consists mostly of coils. Super easy. The yield on coils is 99.9999999%.
