Apple stops signing iOS 9.3.5 and tvOS 9.2.2, effectively preventing downgrades from iOS 10

“As of Wednesday Apple is no longer signing iOS 9.3.5, effectively preventing anyone already on iOS 10 from downgrading to iOS 9,” Roger Fingas reports for AppleInsider.

“The company has also stopped signing iOS 10.0.1,” Fingas reports, “making the latest versions of iOS — iOS 10.0.2, and 10.0.3 on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus – the only releases anyone can install without unsupported workarounds.”

“Separately,” Fingas reports, “Apple has stopped signing tvOS 9.2.2 for the fourth-generation Apple TV.”

MacDailyNews Take: iOS 10 is certainly solid enough for Appel to stop signing iOS 9 versions. Plus, iOS 10.1 is right around the corner!

  1. Really bad practice not allowing to downgrade iOS version.

Be it because the most current release of the iOS is a piece of crap (supposed to improve/fix things but doesn’t), because it is bug ridden (yes, it happens), or it bricks your device, or simply because you don’t like it, or because an important app you use no longer runs/loads on the new ios version (for whatever reason), Apple must allow downgrading your device to at least the previous major release version, no questions asked.

Apple has to have a mechanism to allow downgrading device iOS version.

  2. Frankly, I’m sick of Apple putting a gun against my head with iOS updates. I have to press the “Disagree” option when rejecting an update (and that happens over and over again). The reason I’m so reluctant to update is the bricking of my iPad last year which led to assistance from Apple to fix the problem.

Is there a way to stop these constant requests to update? If so please pass this on.

    1. I learned there’s an app for that in General -> strorage -> manage storage.

There’s a nagware app from Apple. Delete that and all will be well 🙂

That said, I’ve been happy with iOS 10 so far… no major bricking issues with all my devices. But I don’t like how Apple is turning into MS with all the nagware installed on my devices 🙁

      1. That’s not a nagware app, is the entire freaking update which Apple deemed was OK to download > 1GB to our devices without our permission!
It pisses me off.. that and now allowing downgrades. They are such @holes sometimes.
I like my iPhone and iPad most of the time, but really dislike Apple sometimes. I used to hate them, will probably never buy a Mac..

  3. Lovely food, good ambience however….the last time I visited they were emptying or filling their microbrewery and the stench was killing in the restaurant.
Otherwise, the food is good, is in good quantity and the menu is extensive. Drinks are allowed for those who enjoy alcohol with their meals.

  4. Rodizio service is the type of service we offer at Carnaval. Originating in Southern Brazil, most notably in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Gauchos serving meat & carving their meats table side has grown to become Americas favorite way to enjoy the excellent cuts of Beef, Pork, Chicken & Lamb that we offer.
