Drexel Hamilton projects 8 million iPhone unit gain for Apple this year alone due to Samsung’s exploding phones debacle

“Samsung Electronics’s pain with its ‘Note 7’ — it first said it would stop making them, temporarily, and subsequently said it would permanently stop production of the device — continues to be Apple’s gain, according to Drexel Hamilton’s Brian White,” Tiernan Ray reprots for Barron’s.

“White, who has a Buy rating on Apple shares, and a $185 price target, thinks Apple could pick up 8 million more units of iPhone sales before this calendar year is out, thanks to the Note 7’s collapse,” Ray reports. “White also thinks Apple’s own iPhone 7 is also doing very well, including in China: ‘During our visit to over 30 smartphone stores and electronic retailers in Shenzhen this week, we could feel the momentum of Apple’s iPhone franchise and the struggles at some of its important competitors in China. The iPhone 7 Plus is clearly favored over the iPhone 7 in China, while the two new black colors were the most popular…'”

  1. AAPL up some more today… Since the market does not react so much these days to ACTUAL positive results from Apple, I guess we need a few more epic disasters from Samsung to push AAPL to all-time highs (around $130). 🙂

  2. Latest iPhone 7/7 Plus tally from Mixpanel on day 25:

    – iPhone 7/+ at 7.88% times around 550M = 43.3M
    – iPhone 6s/+ at 5.84% times around 450M = 26.3M

Over the last 7 days approximately 1.36M iPhones 7/+ on average each day have been activated, and over the last 7 days of last year 687K iPhone 6s/+ on average each day had been activated. So, over the last 7 days at this point in the sales cycle it looks like about twice the amount of 7/+ iPhones have been activated compared to the 6s/+.

Additionally, 7/7 Plus activations do not appear to be decreasing. One day 25, which was Monday, October 10th 2016, approximately 1.5M iPhone 7/7 Plus units were activated.
